With every passing arc, Eiichiro Oda lifts the curtain on some of the biggest mysteries inOne Piece. The author has made it a habit to disclose new information in every arc to keep things fresh and to keep fans hooked.
The Elbaf arc is no exception, as One Piece fans learned about the Giants and their rich history. In one of the recent chapters, Oda disclosed a key detail about Shanks and how he could be stronger than Joyboy.
Gaban Called Shanks The Child Of Fate
In One Piece Chapter 1152,Loki began narrating the infamous incident thatmade him a pariah. He wanted to tell Hajrudin and those around him what exactly transpired 14 years ago. During the flashback, Gaban and Shanks could be seen taking a bath.
You’re a child of date, Sààhanks. —Scopper Gaban
During their discussion, Shanks revealed that he wanted to start a pirate crew with Buggy. It is during this time that Gaban tells Shanks not to think about trivial things because he is the child of fate. This is a massive admission because it implies that Shanks is the chosen one who might change the fate of the world. Aside from the implication that Shanks is going to alter the future, it’s also plausible to assume that he has the potential to surpass Joyboy.
Shanks Will Surpass Joyboy Eventually
Shanks has already shown glimpses of his power, and it’s safe to say that he looks a cut above everyone else. For instance, in the Wano Country arc, Shanks used a burst of Conqueror’s Haki from his ship, and it was enough to scare Admiral Ryokugyu. The latter realized that it was foolish to challenge someone like Shanks, so he left without causing any more problems.
Shanks put his power on display again in the Egghead arc when he clashed with Eustass Kid. The ‘fight’ lasted for mere moments as Shanks crushed the Supernova in seconds. First,Shanks used Future Sight to see what Kidwas about to do. Next, Shanks showed his impressive reflexes as he leaped from ship to ship to get within range. Finally, Shanks combined Advanced Conqueror’s Haki with Advanced Armament Haki and used Divine Departure to annihilate Eustass Kid and most of his crew.
Shanks Was Chosen By Gol D. Roger
Shanks was taken in by the Roger Pirates when he was still a baby. As he grew up, his talent became more clear. Shanks learned to use Divine Departure before he became an adult, which is another testament to his skill. Shanks remained with the crew until Roger’s death. Before Roger died, he entrusted Shanks with the Straw Hat, which is another indicator that the Pirate King believed in his apprentice.
After leaving the Roger Pirates, Shanks started his crew and gradually rose through the ranks. Eventually, he became one of the Four Emperors of the Sea. Shanks was the youngest of the Emperors, yet he was more or less equal to them in terms of strength. As Shanks gained more experience, he learned to cover up his weaknesses. For instance, he does not dilly-dally when facing an enemy. Kaido made this mistake in Wano, and it cost him dearly.
Shanks Is The Strongest Character In One Piece
Nobody Comes Close To Shanks
After witnessing Imu’s power in Elbaf, many fans believe that they are a cut above the rest. But that’s mainly because nobody knows Imu’s weakness. Once Oda discloses the secret behind Imu’s power, fans will get a better idea of which characters can prove to be a match for him.
There’s no doubtthat Shanks will be among the primecandidates. In fact, there is a good chance that Shanks is aware of Imu’s secret because he also had the Abyss mark. He must have analyzed the mystery behind the mark, and if that’s the case, he would know how to counter Imu’s power. Keeping all these things in mind, it’s highly probable that Shanks is the strongest character in One Piece, and he has surpassed Joyboy.
