In France, Toyotaro has finally spoken out about the potential return ofDragon Ball Super. Since March 2024, fans have been waiting for the story to enter a new arc. Following the announcement of Akira Toriyama’s passing last year,Dragon Ball Superwent on an indefinite hiatus. While this was sad news, most fans understood that Toyotaro needed a break.
When a new chapter came out in February 2025, most expected the series to return to its regular serialization. The new chapter was a bonus story fromthe Super Hero Saga, which ended in the previous chapter. Unfortunately, the manga went on another indefinite hiatus, leading fans to worry if it will ever return.
Toyotaro Thinks It’s Possible to Continue the Story
Toyotaro is currently in France to attend aDragon Ball Superpanel at Paris Japan Expo 2025. According to the French accountDBTimes,he stated that “it’s not impossible” to continueDragon Ball Super, as he was the one writing it. He would send his drafts to Toriyama, who approved or adjusted them (translation byVenixys):
Toyotaro said that it’s not impossible to continue without Toriyama-sensei, because it was he (Toyotaro) who wrote the story of Dragon Ball Super and then sent it to Toriyama, who would approve or not. On other occasions, Toriyama would send his stories to Toyotaro so he could take a look and make suggestions. Then Toriyama would approve them again or not. Since part of the story came from him, Toyotaro believes that continuing without Toriyama-sensei would be “not easy, but not impossible.”

While this is not a confirmation that the series will return anytime soon, it is a great sign for fans waiting for the series to continue. The manga has been mostly a joint effort, but it seems that Toyotaro feels confident he can continue writing it. With his comment in mind, it’s understandable that he might still be struggling to continue the story without Toriyama’s support.
Can We Expect News About Dragon Ball Super?
It is worth mentioning that this commentdid notcome from the panel, which will be held on July 6. This means that DBTimes either took part in a press conference or was lucky enough to find Toyotaro at the event. In any case, there is still the possibility thatToyotaro will make an announcementabout continuing the story at the panel on Sunday, although he might not give a date if there isn’t anything more solid or if he isn’t yet allowed to do so.
V-JUMPmagazine is still heavily relying on promotingDragon Ball Superas one of its flagship titles, so it seems unlikely that the story has been canceled. Of course, it also depends on Toyotaro feeling confident enough to write the upcoming arcs. Either way, this seems like good news for those looking forwardto the Black Frieza Arc, so fans should keep an eye for updates on the series' serialization.
