Summary
Jujutsu Kaisenhas been one of the most buzzworthy series since its anime debut. It hooked fans from the very first episode, largely because how Studio MAPPA’s animation doesn’t hold back in the slightest. Thevisuals are nothing short of stunningand bring the characters to life in every sense of the word. Nothing about these characters is generic or boring, both in terms of power and personality. Sure, the story doesn’t exactly reinvent the shonen wheel with its world-building (curses and all), but it knows exactly what it’s doing. The best part is that it does all this with so much personality and emotion that fans can’t help but come back for more.
The thing is, whileJujutsu Kaisenis clearly massive right now, every big thing eventually makes way for the next, and that’s perfectly okay. The series might not have the long run and popularity of some other shonen giants, but that just means there’s room for something new to take the spotlight. With how active the anime industry is, fans might just find their next obsession sooner than expected. It could even be with one of thesenewer anime series, which all have the potential to rivalJujutsu Kaisen.
7Sentenced To Be A Hero
ACreative Take On Eternal Suffering, And A Well-Balanced Power Fantasy Epic
While being a hero is usually the dream, inSentenced To Be A Hero, it’s a never-ending torment. This anime is primed to overtakeJujutsu Kaisen’sposition because of its unique premise, where the heroes are literal cannon fodder in an endless fight against the demon king’s armies. Thosewho fall in battle are resurrected to continue the cycle, whether they like it or not.
The protagonist, Xylo Forbarts, is one of the many criminals forced to be one of these ‘heroes.’ Fortunately, Xylo’s dire situation has a bright light at the end of the tunnel—a powerful Goddess. She offers her power to the ragtag group, giving them a fighting chance against the demonic army and the conspirators who are sentencing them.
6Dekin No Mogura: The Earthbound Mole
A Dark Comedy Mix Of Supernatural And Ghostbusters With A Compelling Mystery
ToJujutsu Kaisenfans,Dekin no Mogurawill feel oddly familiar, given the heavy supernatural emphasisin both series. However, this anime features an element of dark humor that will significantly enhance its absurdity and fun factor. It’s going to follow a monster-of-the-week format with an overarching narrative. Two university students see a strange man who refuses medical assistance or police involvement despite getting hurt. It turns out that the man is banned from the afterlife because of a grave misdeed. To repent, he collects stray spirits in his mystical lantern.
Despite being a somewhat humorous series,Dekin No Moguracan definitely give modern classics like the works of Junji Ito a run for their money thanks to its eerie visuals and creepy atmosphere.
The Summer Hikaru Died’sprotagonists are two childhood friends, Hikaru and Yoshiki, who couldn’t be any different. Despite their differences, though, they always stick by each other. After a fatal accident leaves Hikari on the brink of death, he is ‘consumed’ by an Eldritch horror. Yoshiki immediately sees through the ruse, but remains Hikari’s friend as if nothing’s changed.
The gore and body horror aspects ofJujutsu Kaisenare not for the faint of heart. It looks like that’ll also be the case forThe Summer Hikaru Died. This Netflix anime makes up for a lack of mega-fights and spectacle-filled action scenes with excruciating suspense and downright horrific moments. It’s already two episodes in and is doing a number on its viewers!
4BULLET/BULLET
Post-Apocalyptic Heist Caper That’s Shaping Up To Be A Thrilling Adventure
Jokingly referred to as “moreTrigunthan the actualTrigun Remake,“BULLET/BULLEThas all the ingredients to be an exceedingly stylish anime that could be bigger thanJujutsu Kaisen.ThisDisney-commissioned original animefeatures a post-apocalyptic setting and Western vibes. The main characters track down stolen items and return them for a fee, kind of like bounty hunters.
The show involves a conspiracy when a girl approaches Gear, one of the protagonists. She asks him to steal an item that lands him and his allies at the heart of a conflict between powerful factions. It may not be similar toJJKin terms of its intensity (at least, as far as fans can tell), but it definitely promises something extremely juicy for its viewers.
Tougen Ankiis another anime that has a lot in common withJujutsu Kaisen, and can potentially top it in the action department. There is an academic setting, and a major conflict between Oni and Momotaro;Oni are the demons, and the Momotaro hunt them down. The main character is Shiki, a young boy raised by a Momotaro, but is actually an Oni descendant.
When tragedy strikes, Shiki takes it upon himself to get revenge on the Momotaro by honing his powers at the Oni academy. The various powers and interesting ideological clashes are nothing new; other shonen anime have those, too. However,Tougen Ankiis shaping up to add nuance and depth to these themes beyond its flashy fights.
Fans who want a mature fantasy anime that can rivalJujutsu Kaisen’smeteoric rise will loveClevatess. This currently-airing anime, based on a webtoon, is looking to cleverly present the story from the villain’s perspective. Cleavatess is a mighty beast lord with powerful sorcery and imposing physical strength. He’s become disillusioned with humanity and is set to wipe them all out.
However, before he can act on that intention, hebecomes the custodian of a child of destinyand has to care for them. Cleavatess even resurrects one of the thirteen heroes of legend, all of whom he slew previously. Awkward. With enemies out to get him and the child, he must be a survivor, mentor, and protector to succeed.
Studio Bones is pulling out all the stops with the animeGachiakuta, and it has the best shot at taking overJujutsu Kaisen’sthrone. With a clear societal divide akin toArcane’sUndercity and Piltover, the stage is wonderfully set for viewers. The main protagonist, Rudo, resides in the slum of high society, ‘The Sphere.’ He is framed for a murder and sentenced to the depths of ‘The Ground.’
Here, trash mutates into monstrous creatures, and he has no choice but to survive. Rudo is saved by one of the Cleaners, a group dedicated to hunting monsters, and he then decides to join the Cleaners to get his revenge on the people who framed him. The world ofGachiakutafeels dark and complex, and the anime’s battles don’t appear as slug fests or screaming matches either.
