A new and unannouncedGuilty Geartitle has reportedly been canceled in recent weeks at series developer Arc System Works. Some new details about theGuilty Geargame’s development have surfaced while fans wait for the nextGuilty Gear StriveDLC character to be released.
The latest title in the belovedGuilty Gearfighting game series isGuilty Gear Strive, which was released in June 2021. Nearly four years after its release,Guilty Gear Striveis still being supported by Arc System Workswith regular updates and DLC content. In the past year,Guilty Gear Strivereceived multiple DLC characters as part of Season 4, including Venom and Unika. Moreover, Lucy from CD Projekt Red and Studio Trigger’sCyberpunk Edgerunnersanime will be the next DLC character. Lucy is planned to be released sometime before the end of summer 2025, and ahead of the character’s release, some details about Arc System Works' plans for theGuilty Gearfranchise have emerged.
As reported byInsider Gaming, Arc System Works has canceled development of a newGuilty Geartitle within the last few weeks, according to sources who spoke anonymously on the matter. A reason for the cancellation was not specified, but when asked about the future oftheGuilty GearseriesafterGuilty Gear Strive, one source claimed that it was “back to the drawing board.” From what the source knew, the newGuilty Geartitle was not close to being finished.
Arc System Works Reportedly Cancels New and Unannounced Guilty Gear Title
Although details about the newGuilty Geargame are scarce, the source’s comments on its now-canceled development might suggest that Arc System Works is restarting plans for whatever comes next for the series.Guilty Gear StriveSeason 5has not been officially confirmed, but leaks have suggested that more DLC characters are on the way. If true, Season 5 could hold fans over for a while as Arc System Works decides on what’s next forGuilty Gear.
The June 26 Arc System Works Showcase highlighted that the company wants to expand its catalog beyond fighting games likeGuilty Gear, as they’re both developing and publishing new games in different genres. For example,Guilty Gearseries creator Daisuke Ishiwatari is working onDAMON and BABY, a brand-new action game that aims to help bolster Arc System Works' brand and “establish a pillar outside fighting games.” Arc System Works is also working withDisgaeacreator and former Nippon Ichi Software president Sohei Niikawa to releaseDemon’s Night Fever, a new “raising speedrun simulation RPG,” in 2026.
