Some new concept art for the long-canceledBatmangame - dubbedProject Sabbath- has surfaced online. While there have been numerous concept art leaks surrounding this shelvedBatmangame in the past, the latest batch shows off the best glimpse so far at some key characters, including an older Bruce Wayne.
Although never officially announced,Project Sabbathhas been a hot topic of discussion amongBatmanfans since details about it began percolating about six years ago.Project Sabbathwas reportedly in development at WB Games Montreal and intended to be a follow-up to 2015’sBatman: Arkham Knight. ThescrappedBatmangame would have starred Damian Wayneas Gotham’s new Dark Knight, set in a future timeline years after Bruce Wayne’s retirement. However, Project Sabbath was ultimately shelved in favor ofGotham Knights, which launched in 2022 to lukewarm reception.
All these years later, a new batch of concept art and in-game character models for thecanceled Damian WayneBatmangamehas made its way online. Sourced from former WB Montreal character artist Rodrigue Pralier andshared by MP1ST, the images depict avisibly older Bruce Wayne who’s equipped with a cane- reminiscent ofBatman Beyond’s Terry McGinnis-era Bruce. His son, Damian Wayne, can also be seen suited up in what seems to be a slimmer and more agile Batsuit, along with blue eyes, a short haircut, and some scarring on his face.
Fresh Concept Art Provides New Look at Canceled Batman Game’s Bruce Wayne, Damian Wayne, Killer Croc, and More
There are some character model options for Killer Croc as well, where most of them look more human than his monstrousBatman: Arkhamcounterpart, but one bears a striking resemblance to a Predator and another looks somewhat inspired byBaraka from theMortal Kombatseries. Lastly, the Huntress is featured in concept art that shows off her black-and-purple cowl, as well as some character models displaying her classic black-white-purple suit.
Project Sabbathwas purportedly intended to be the fifth entry in theBatmanArkhamverse, but some of these designs suggest it may have broken from that continuity. Still, it’s unfortunate to see another seemingly-promising DC game cut down before its time, especially following the cancelation of Monolith’sWonder Womangame earlier this year. Thankfully, WB has at least reiterated its commitment to core franchises likeBatmanandHarry Pottersince then, and rumors from credible sources even point toRocksteady possibly working on a newBatman Beyondgamein the wake ofSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice League’s enormous failure.
