How Kishimoto Designed Naruto’s Jutsu
While some fans believe Naruto’s short jutsu count is due to Kishimoto’s personal limitations in drawing fight sequences and complex jutsu, it stems from Naruto’s fighting style and image, as well as his clan’s lineage. The same is true with other characters in the series, not just with Naruto.
In an old interview, Kishimoto revealed his thought process when asked about the most important thing needed in designing Naruto’s jutsu:
Q: Now, I want to hear about various things about techniques. When you think about ninjutsu, Kishimoto-sensei, what do you think is the most important thing?
Kishimoto: The fact that it’s something that’s not out of place with the character’s image. And the fact that it’s in line with the configuration that the character itself has. I think within the range hypothesised from things like the context, and the clan’s lineage.
Basically, Kishimoto only wanted to give Naruto techniques that could be easily incorporated into his personality, image, fighting style, and elemental affinity. Instead of handing out flashy and over-the-top techniques, which Naruto could easily learn with the help of shadow clones, it’s best forNaruto to master his signature moves. On top of that, these unforgettable techniques eventually became an extension of his character.
