Kakashi Hatake’s remarkable track record in theNarutoseries makes him relevant to this day. Kakashi was no exception. In fact, he activated two Mangekyo Sharingan at the same time during the Kaguya Otsutsuki arc, leading to the emergence of the Full-Body Susanoo. But how did he do it?

How One Eye Changed Everything for Kakashi
To fully understand how Kakashi unlocked the Susanoo in the Kaguya Otsutsuki arc, it’s best to revisit his history with the Sharingan. Throughout the Naruto series, Kakashi Hatake had a love-haterelationship with the Uchiha dojutsu. With his left-eye sharingan, he became widely known as the Copy Ninja, capable of mastering over a hundred, if not a thousand, jutsu.
However, Kakashi had no Uchiha blood running in his veins, resulting in his chakra consumption draining him faster than a real Uchiha. As it turned out, Kakashi’s Sharingan was never his in the first place. It was Obito Uchiha’s farewell, but a tragic gift for his soon-to-be promotion to Jonin. Eventually, heawakened the Mangekyo Sharinganafter losing his close friend, Rin, in an unfortunate encounter.

From that day forward,Kakashi learned to use the Sharinganwith impressive efficiency. Although there were times when he would still overexert himself, resulting in his hospital bed arrest for days, just to recover. With this, it’s clear that Kakashi couldn’t unlock the Susanoo with only one Sharingan and without Uchiha blood. Of course, Kishimoto thought of a pretty interesting way to give Kakashi access to Susanoo later on.
How Kakashi Gained Access to Susanoo
Kakashi Awakened Susanoo Because of Obito Uchiha
Kakashi unlocked the Susanoo inNarutochapter 688, “…of the Sharingan,” all thanks to Obito Uchiha’s last efforts to redeem himself and help his friend. Once again, Obito was the one responsiblefor Kakashi’s temporary power-up, and fans were both surprised and emotional at the time the chapter and anime episode dropped.
While fans thought Obito would rest in peace with Rin in the Pure Land (Naruto’s version of limbo between life and afterlife) for good after he sacrificed himself to protect Kakashi and Naruto from Kaguya Otsutsuki’s attacks, he surprisingly decided to see his friend once more just to push him to continue living.

Since chakra is basically an energy that connects two worlds or two dimensions, Obito managed touse Kamui to travel across two dimensionsto give his final gift to Kakashi: two Mangekyo Sharingan, amplified with six paths chakra. In other words, he used his remaining chakra to imbue Kakashi in the world of the living with the power of Mangekyo Sharingan, strong enough to gain access to the Perfect Susanoo.
But, as much as fans would love to see Kakashi retain this formidable power, his access to the Susanoo was only temporary. After all, his two Mangekyo Sharingan, as well as the chakra used togain access to the Susanoo, were never his from the very beginning. So, when Obito finally joined Rin and faded away, so did this temporary power-up.
Can Kakashi Use Susanoo Again?
As of writing, it might not be possible for Kakashi to use the Susanoo again, not because he hasnever appeared in theBorutomanga, but because he doesn’t possess any Sharingan at all. Since he lost the Sharingan after Obito faded inNaruto, he automatically reverted to his normal original self without any powerful Uchiha dojutsu.
Unless Kishimoto or Ikemoto find a way to give it back to Kakashi, there’s little to no chance he’ll awaken Mangekyo Sharingan and Susanoo at the moment. But, despite losing the Sharingan, Kakashi clearly remains a skilled and respected ninja in Konoha. He might beweaker than Naruto and Sasukenow, but his intellect and combat experience are still top-notch.
