My Hero Academia Season 8will kick off later this year, and Kohei Horikoshi dropped major news at Anime Expo 2025 over the weekend. TheMy Hero Academiaanime will finally cover the Final War, so fans are eager to finally see the story’s climax adapted into animation.
The original manga concluded last year, but the original ending sparked heated discussions among fans, especially because of what happened to Deku. Since then, Horikoshi has expanded the ending with original one-shots and the extended epilogue released with the final volume of the manga.
My Hero Academia Season 8 Will Feature Original Content
At Anime Expo,My Hero Academiacreator Kohei Horikoshi teased thatSeason 8, also known as the Final Season, would feature original content, with new scenes and “significant tweaks.” It’s unclear if those changes will only expand the events or if they might mean significant changes to the course of a few events in the original manga. Additionally, Horikoshi guaranteed he has been closely involved in the production, so any changes will have his approval:
The anime has finally made it to its final season, and when I was drawing the last arc of the manga, I had to fight my own battles. I wondered whether people would be happy with the past 10 years or if people felt like they wasted their time. I wanted to make something fans could look back on and enjoyed the journey.
Thankfully, it seems that the anime team feels the same way, and they’re putting their all into the final season. Now that the manga is over, I’ve been riding that wave and becoming more involved in production… With everyone giving it their all, the final season airs this October. Let’s give it our all!

He expressed excitement about the production, so fans can expect changes that will improve the final events of the story. Also, those who have read the manga should perhaps prepare themselves to be surprised by a few twists in comparison to the original ending.
Why Is My Hero Academia’s Ending Controversial?
The following section contains spoilers for My Hero Academia.
When the final chapter came out, many fans were outraged by Deku’s ending. SinceMy Hero Academia Chapter 1started with a quote in line with this: “This is how I became the greatest hero,” many fans expected Deku to end up as the Number 1 Hero. However, instead, he became a Quirkless teacher at U.A. High School.
While this ending aligned with Deku’s character development, many fans couldn’t believe Deku would have such a “simple” ending. However, in later additions,Horikoshi gave him a Hero Suitwhich allows him to fight Villains even though he is Quirkless, and brought Deku back into action. These additions helped satisfy fans, although some still don’t like that Deku has started a relationship with Ochaco at the end of the story (but that is a completely different discussion). With new events celebrating the series, Horikoshi has expanded the original ending even more, and perhaps the anime will also include additional material not featured in the 42 volumes of the manga.

In My Hero Academia, some humans have superpowers called quirks. Izuku Midoriya, nicknamed Deku, is not one of them. My Hero Academia centers around Deku and a class of heroes-in-training at UA. This school shapes young quirk users into future heroes through fake rescue missions, combat training, and other hero-tempering tasks. With young Deku inheriting the “One-For-All” quirk, he will learn what it means to be a true hero while facing off with dastardly supervillains.
