Summary
TheDemon Slayeranime and mangahave some of the most fascinating, captivating takes on demons. Instead of portraying them as mindless creatures without a sentient thought, they’re given intelligence and sentience rivaling that of their human counterparts (possibly even going above and beyond). There is an established hierarchy among their kind, and most of them are in the daily grind to rise above their stations to get into the twelve Kizuki. Many of them have a humanizing element, with tragedy being the common denominator.
However, another trait that makes theDemon Slayerdemons stand out from other anime and manga is their abilities. Almost every other demon possesses some kind of quirky power that’s not only a visual spectacle, but also disturbingly powerful. The comparison for this list is all about the effectiveness and uniqueness of demonic ability.
8Gyokko
A Blood Art Rooted In Artistry
Gyokko is perhaps one of the most intriguing characters in theDemon Slayerseries. His grotesque, artistic tendencies and deception are a dangerous combination. Gyokko’s penchant for ruthlessness has him completely desecrate and devour victims brutally. With his unique mode oftraversal using his Blood Art: Porcelain Vase, Gyokko can flee from danger or sneak up on his opponents in the blink of an eye.
Another way Gyokko stands out among other demonsis his unique ability to summon aquatic monsters. These creatures are bound to his will and possess different abilities to aid him in battles against the Hashira.
7Enmu
The Sadistic Sandman Of The Lower Six Kizuki
While not the most physically imposing demon inDemon Slayer,Enmu isn’t any less of a threat. Rather than strong-arming humans and the Hashira,Enmu relies more on his Blood Demon Art: Sleep Inducementand its extension, Dream Manipulation.
This potent combination renders his enemies unconscious and completely at his mercy. While asleep, Enmu’s victims experience their utmost desire coming true, and he goads them to accept that reality until they die in real life. InMugen Trian, Enmu basically possesses the ability to merge with the train to magnify his power’s influence over the passengers and survive his apparent beheading.
6Rui
A Lonely Soul, But A Slick And Powerful Demon
Rui is a tragic demon character with a frightening aura, and Tanjiro’s first true testinDemon Slayer. His ability to bestow his own power on other demons actually limited his true potential. However, even with the handicap, he managed to be incredibly powerful. His arachnid-themed visage wasn’t just for show, considering how his power, Filukinesis (the ability to control threads or strings — in his case, webs), was horrifically effective.
His tactics were entraping foes in strands like a spider-web or cutting them down into tiny pieces. Rui was not only strong, but also quite cunning. He was also capable of separating his head from his body of his own volition to avoid fatal blows.
5Daki And Gyutaro
The Deadly Sibling Demonic Duo
A double inclusion makes sensebecause the demon siblings, Daki and Gyutaro, share the same body. Daki is a more prideful and actively hostile demon character who can create and control sentient obi sashes. These orbs can attack her enemies from all sides and from great distances.
Gyutaro, on the other hand, is a grotesque demon in appearance and is far more powerful than his sister. In fact, Gyutaro’s haemokinesis is so potent and lethal that his blood can solidify to clash with the Nichirin Swords. His blood is highly venomous and can kill seasoned Hashira with ease. When both demon siblings work in tandem, they become even more devastating.
4Akaza
A True Prodigy Martial Artist Demon
WhileDemon Slayerhas many powerful demon characters,Akaza’s tenacity and fighting spirit make him special. With brutish strength and lightning-fast reflexes, Akaza doesn’t even need special abilities most of the time to overpower and crush his opponents. However, he does possess a Blood Demon Art — The Destructive Death.
He essentially uses his lethal martial arts skills to generate shockwaves that can cause mass destruction. Akaza’s martial arts mastery allows the shockwaves to be more lethal and precise. He can even generate them from any distance. His fighting spirit is so strong that even after decapitation, his body keeps fighting, refusing to stay down.
3Kokushibo
The Demon Who Slays The Demon Slayers
Kokushibo is the top dog of the twelve Kizukiand perhaps its most intimidating member. He is the perfect weapon for Muzan to deploy against the Hashira, since he is practically one himself (minus their weakness). With his potent skillset of Moon Breathing and Blood Demon Art: Crescent Moon Blades, Kokushibo is, without exaggeration, death incarnate.
He can conjure up razor-sharp moon blades that can alter in size, shape, and number to quickly annihilate his opponents. And since they have no set rhythm or direction, these moon blades can attack from anywhere and at any time. His flesh katana further augments his already broken attack power.
2Nezuko
The Perfect Counter To Every Demon Is A Half-Demon Whose Existence Is A Danger
The sweet and adorable Nezuko is also theantithesis of most demon characters inDemon Slayer, apart from her lethal abilities. Her blood is key in exterminating the demons, and it is also the source of her power. She plays a key role in fights and the overall narrative, because of her half-demon physiology and retained humanity.
Nezuko’s Blood Demon Art, Combustible Blood, is exactly what it sounds like — it can burn demons. She also isn’t afraid to get into physical confrontations and risk her life for her brother and other humans. She doesn’t hesitate to endure serious injuries to douse a demon with her blood to ignite it, which naturally points towards her strength and hand-to-hand combat skills.
1Hantengu
The Most Unique Demon Lived Up To The Hype
Hantengu is perhaps the most complex and interesting demon inDemon Slayer. His Blood Demon Art, Emotion Manifestation, shakes up the very foundation of demon slayers. He can summon different aspects of his personality as different people, and each one has a different ability that adds to his unpredictability.
With a total of seven different emotions that can physically manifest and fight beside each other, Hantengu easily trumps others, including Muzan. He has the most dangerous skill set in terms of pure spectacle and utility. Hantengu can also absorb the clone personas to use their abilities and boost his overall strength and regeneration.
