Just days after launch, theMeta Quest 3S Xbox EditionVR headset is already sold out on Meta’s official website. The Xbox-brandedMeta Quest 3Swent on sale earlier this week in extremely limited quantities, and it’s already out of stock at one of the four retail outlets selling the headset.
The Quest 3S Xbox Edition is the result of apartnership between Meta and Microsoft, which began in 2022 with Xbox Cloud Gaming support on Quest headsets, and expanded in 2023 with Game Pass integration on Quest 3. Now, the Quest 3S Xbox Edition offers fans a distinctly Xbox-themed VR headset without requiring a dedicated Xbox console. Given Microsoft’s historically apathetic stance on VR hardware, this marks one of the clearest signs yet of the gaming giant’s willingness to collaborate rather than compete directly in the mixed-reality space.
Shortly after theQuest 3S Xbox Edition launched at $399.99in such limited quantities that Microsoft even said “once they’re gone, they’re gone,” the headset is now fully sold out on Meta’s online storefront. This was one of two retailers the Quest 3S Xbox Edition was available at in the US; the other wasBest Buy, which still has the headset in stock, but quotes an unusually faraway delivery date of July 10. On the other side of the pond, UK retailers Argos and EE have the Quest 3S Xbox Edition in stock, with delivery promised in two to three days.
Meta Quest 3S Xbox Edition Sells Out on Meta Store; Still in Stock at Other Retailers
While it’s difficult to make assumptions about the Quest 3S Xbox Edition’s broader appeal without knowing the exact number of available units overall, the fact that it sold out on the Meta store - which would likely carry the maximum amount of stock - before all other retailers, suggests VR and Xbox fans are interested in the headset. It wouldn’t be difficult to see why, as for just $100 over thestandard Meta Quest 3S, the Xbox Edition bundle packs in lots of valuable extras, like a matching limited-edition Xbox controller, Elite Strap, and three-month trials of the Meta Horizon+ and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription services.
In the UK, though, adoption of the Quest 3S Xbox Edition doesn’t seem to be as quick, likely due to it retailing for £380 ($521) there - a 30 percent disparity in price. However, this could all change in the coming days. Notably, Microsoft is also gearing up for another Xbox-branded device launch later this year: the Asus ROG Xbox Ally. The handheld was announced earlier this month at the Xbox Games Showcase, and if recent reports are to be believed, theROG Xbox Ally could fall in the $700-1000 price range.
