Marvel Rivalsis officially kicking off its third season on July 11. Season 3, titled “The Abyss Awakens,” looks like it will shake up the game in several ways. At launch,Marvel Rivals' Season 3 will introduce Phoenix as a Duelist character, a Domination map called Klyntar: Celestial Husk, and a brand-new battle pass filled with outfits themed around symbiotes and the Phoenix Force.
As with each ofMarvel Rivals' prior seasons, Season 3 is set to drop even more content as the season progresses. However, unlike prior seasons, players won’t be left in the dark or have to rely on leakers to find out about upcoming additions to the game asMarvel Rivalshas unveiled its first-ever roadmap for Season 3 ahead of its launch.
Everything Marvel Rivals' Players Can Gleam From the New Roadmap
The Season 3 roadmap is interesting not only because it previews future content drops, but because it is entirely unprecedented forMarvel Rivals' typical format. While the game’s development team has been open with its communication, regularly making decisions based on player feedback and releasing dev diaries to give insight into upcoming changes, the team has never shared this much information about a season this far in advance.
Though the roadmap only provides information up until the start of Season 3.5, it still gives players a good idea of what they can expect from the first half of this season and beyond.
What to Expect From the First Half of Season 3
The first content drop for Season 3 is on July 11, when Phoenix, the Celestial Husk map, and the new battle pass drop, as well as a new event called Milano Repair Logs will also begin. As with many ofMarvel Rivals' previous events, players can unlock a free skin upon completing missions for the event. This time, the free skin will be asymbiote outfit for Storm.
The next content drop comes on July 18, bringing highly anticipated swimsuit skins and introducing a new, undisclosed summer party event. So far, it has been revealed that Thor, Loki, Luna Snow, and Psylocke will be receiving swimsuit skins. Though not previewed in the roadmap image, arecent leak about theMarvel Rivals' swimsuit skinsshowed that Punisher will likely be receiving a beach outfit as well.
After the summer party,Marvel Rivalswill receive another update on July 25 as part of a collaboration withMarvel Studios’The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Each member of The Fantastic Four will receive a new outfit — which will likely be obtainable in the game’s store — based on their on-screen appearance. Additionally, the roadmap shows that The Thing and The Human Torch will be given a new Team-Up ability in-game, though the ability has not been detailed yet.
The last drop for the first half of Season 3 will arrive on August 1. It will bring the Phoenix Demon skin for Magik and the Phoenix Panther skin for Black Panther. These designs are in line with the other Phoenix Force skins, such as those in the Season 3 Battle Pass and Season 2’sPhoenix Knight outfit for Moon Knight, and will provide both characters with a fiery black and gold color scheme.
What the Roadmap Shares About Season 3.5
The roadmap did not reveal any upcoming content for the second half of Season 3. However, it did provide new information about when players can expect the game’s next character to release. It was previously stated by the development team that Blade would be arriving inMarvel Rivalsat the start of Season 3.5.
So, with the roadmap confirming that Season 3.5 will begin on August 8, players now know when the beloved vampire hunter will finally make his debut as a playable character. It is unknown if a similar roadmap will be released ahead of Season 3.5, but hopefully the current roadmap sets a precedent forMarvel Rivals' future seasons.
