Developer Slavic Magic has recently revealed thatManor Lordsis undergoing a major overhaul of many of its systems, including how buildings, production chains, and environmental interactions function.Manor Lordshasn’t received any significant updates for the past six months, though far from being a bad sign, it means Slavic Magic is hard at work on a major game-changing update for players.

Manor Lordsis currently one of the best games on Steam Early Access, with over 2.5 million copies sold and a “Mostly Positive” rating on the platform. Created by solo developer Slavic Magic,Manor Lordsis a medieval city-building game with real-time tactical battles that quickly became a hit in 2024 thanks to its blend of detailed resource management, realistic town-building, and strategic combat. While the game remains in Early Access, with many features and mechanics that still need to be polished, it has been praised for its depth and innovative approach to strategy games. Slavic Magic has been steadily updating the game, introducing new features and improving the overall experience—however, there has been a six-month gap since the latest update. Now, the developer has shared new details for players.

In aSteam blog post, the developer discussedManor Lords’ future updates, offering new details for the next patch while also explaining why the game hasn’t received any updates over the past six months. “We’re overhauling a lot of systems at once,” writes Slavic Magic, justifying the game’s six-month update hiccup. The developer describes the next patch as a “full rework” of many of the game’s systems. One of these features is the Affinity system, which is being designed to make city-building more strategic and rewarding. This system links buildings and their environments by creating bonuses when certain structures are placed near others or in specific locations.

Now,Manor Lords’ buildingshave different “Affinities,” like Apiaries, which will now benefit from large Woodland areas in the region. The system, however, has grown more complex during development, as Slavic Magic wants some buildings to be able to boost the Affinities of others—while making actions like chopping down forests negatively impact certain structures’ Affinities.

In addition to the Affinity system, the update will bring new shop fronts and artisan workstations, a new map called “Divided,” where the east and west sides are separated by a small mountain range, a new development Perk Card system, as well as reworked Building Cards. It’s important to note that all these features are still a work in progress and could change during development. While Slavic Magic continues working on the next update, players have plenty to look forward to inManor Lords’ fun medieval world.
