Summary
It’s been a long time since28 Days Laterand28 Weeks Laterwere released. Overa decade has passed, but28 Years Laterreturns with a new cast of characters set on a remote island called Lindisfarne. Here, survivors have been able to keep away from the infected because there is a land bridge that opens and closes with the tide.
Even when the infected attempt to run to Lindisfarne, gatekeepers step up to blast them back. Upon turning of age, Spike is brought to the mainland with his father, Jamie, on a scouting mission. What they find is troubling. That’s the film’s basic setup, and of course, there arequestions left unanswered by the conclusion. What will fans be wondering about until28 Years Later: The Bone Templecomes out in January 2026?
7Will Jamie Go Rescue His Family Alone?
A Father’s Love
Jamie is beyond outraged when he sees the baby and the remnants of Spike along with it at the end of the movie. He knows Spike is still alive and hates that he missed him.As a fatherand a husband, there are probably a million pains he has been going through since Spike and Isla snuck out of the colony.
It’s safe to say that the sequel will feature Jamie going after his family, not knowing Isla is dead, but will anyone join him on his quest, or will this be a solo mission? He is seemingly having an affair with Rosey, so perhaps she will accompany him.
6Is Dr. Kelson Okay?
And How Did He Survive Alone For Years?
When Jamie and Spike see a flame in the distance during their scouting mission, Jamie is cagey about what it could be. He knew all along that the flame was coming from an area known to belong to a doctor named Ian Kelson.
Jamie thinks the man is out of his gourd, which is why he keeps this information a secret from Spike. Even though the good doctor is a bit strange, he is mostly right of mind and helps Spike and Isla as best he can when they arrive. How long has he been alone, and what happened to the doctor’s family and friends?
5What Happened To Jimmy After The Intro?
A Cult Is Born
The Intro to28 Years Lateris beyond creepy, first starting with a distorted version of The Teletubbies onscreen. Kids are watching as screams can be heard throughout the house, leading to a zombie breaking in and killing multiple people. Jimmy escapes, witnessing other horrors along the way, including a priest getting absolutely wrecked.
Jimmy’s whereabouts are not revealed until the end of the movie when Spike is rescued by the now-named Sir Jimmy Crystal and his followers, all named after some form of Jimmy. For example, in the credits, there are Jimmima and Jimmy Fox. It’s safe to say that Spike hasstumbled into a cult, but is he safe with Sir Jimmy Crystal, and what exactly happened to him?
4The Rage Virus
Are There More Mutated Versions Out There Beyond The Alphas?
The first two movies were all about going againstconventional norms for zombie moviesby making the Rage Virus’ infected faster than typical zombies. Also, it was much easier to get infected with the Rage Virus, as a single drop of blood was enough to do a survivor in. That said, the infected still looked like humans, but28 Years Laterintroduced an evolutionary chain.
When Spike and Jamie first get to the mainland, they find bloated infected crawling around like a bunch of creepy babies. Soon after, they encounter The Alphas, who are seemingly smarter than normal infected, all conforming around and following a lead Alpha. Are there other infected types out there?
3Are The Alphas Sentient?
Samson Shows Remorse
Digging further into the Alphas, there are a lot more questions on the table. Are they a sentient species who can think for themselves? For example, instead of hungrily chasing after Spike and Jamie like most infected, this first leader, later named Berserker, stands atop a hill as he sends his goons after the two survivors.
This restraint suggests a level of intelligence, along with the second Alpha leader, Samson, being upset over the death of a pregnant infected. Also, in a moment of humanity, this pregnant Alpha touches tips with Isla, as ifa bond between mothersis being formed. So exactly how smart are these Alphas?
2How Did That Alpha Get Pregnant?
Will The Baby Be Okay?
The pregnant Alpha has a lot of questions attached to it as well, which is wild to think about. Did Samson impregnate this infected woman with a child? Are Alphas capable of reproduction, and has this happened before?
Alternatively, did Samson turn a pregnant woman into an infected? All of these scenarios are wild to think about, along with the fact that the baby seems fine after it is born. Dr. Kelson says this is thanks to a woman’s placenta, which could be a hint ata possible cure, or something else.
1The State Of The World
And The UK’s Population
One of the biggest revelations in28 Years Lateris that the rest of the world is seemingly fine. The other nations decided to turn the UK into a quarantine zone that is regularly patrolled by soldiers from around the globe. How have they contained the UK, though?
Are there giant walls built around the country similar toa reverseAttack on Titansetup? Also, is the rest of the world really okay, or have pockets of populations been affected by the outbreak for decades? It will be interesting to see if any more outside forces are introduced, like Erik’s company, in the sequel.
