Kojima Productions has two projects in the pipeline afterDeath Stranding 2, with one being a mysterious horror game titledOD. In addition toOD,Physintis currently in development. Teased as an espionage thriller inspired by Kojima’s hit seriesMetal Gear Solid, there is practically nothing known aboutPhysint. When it comes toOD, though, there are at least a few more details out there.ODis going to be a horror story, and while the plot is being kept under wraps, the game’s first and only teaser trailer is full of Kojima’s special brand of weirdness. Finally getting to see a full horror game by Kojima is exciting enough, butDeath Stranding 2could potentially be planting seeds as to what to expect.

Death Stranding 2 Makes its BTs More Terrifying Than Ever, and it Could Lay the Groundwork for Some of OD’s Biggest Scares

Death Stranding 2is far from a horror game, but there are particular moments sprinkled throughout that lean heavily into body horror territory. Between the first BT boss that is a giant floating head covered in tentacles, or Tarman’s son being killed by BTs spilling out of a chiral whale’s stomach,Death Stranding 2doesn’t hold back on disturbing imagery.

There are a few intriguing details confirmed aboutOD. The game will be an Xbox exclusive and is being co-written byJordan Peele. So far, the confirmed cast consists ofSophia Lillis,Udo Kier, andHunter Schafer.

It’s Currently Unknown What OD’s Brand of Horror Will Be

Based on the trailer forOD, the game is potentially embracing more of a psychological tone when it comes to its horror approach. Of course, there’s no way to know for sure, since the trailer is incredibly brief and simply confirms a few cast members, but after the iconicPTteaser game that Kojima made to promote a now-canceledSilent Hillproject, psychological scares seem incredibly likely. It’s important to note, though, that there were a few body horror aspects toPT, too. From the fetus lying in the sink tothe main ghost Lisa’s horrifying appearance,PTdoesn’t skimp on the grotesque imagery.

Granted,Death Stranding 2’s imageryis a far more PG-13 take on body horror, but it still manages to be disturbing. IfODcontinues Kojima’s clear fascination with mind-bending horror imagery, there’s no telling what the horror title will have awaiting players.

Right Now, OD is Still in Production

After last week’s Microsoft lay-offs, there were concerns thatODmay have been one of the games to get hit, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. Games likePerfect DarkandEverwildunfortunately met an early end, butODcurrently seems to still be in development. A Kojima-made horror game has been anticipated for a long time, and the mystery surroundingODhas only made it that much more intriguing.

SinceKojima Productions is still working onOD, there’s no telling when the game will be ready. There hopefully won’t be too long of a wait betweenDeath Stranding 2and Kojima’s next game.Death Stranding 2puts fans through an emotionally taxing journey, and it will be fascinating to see just how Kojima chooses to challenge players with his own unique take on the horror genre.
