Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2has already cemented itself as one of the greats of 2025, but its legacy is set to continue with its upcoming Legacy of the Forge DLC. Slated for aQ3 2025 launch, Legacy of the Forge sees players rebuilding a once-renowned forge from the ground up, with the expansion’s narrative centering around Martin, Henry’s adoptive father. At this point, Warhorse has yet to divulge any information about what gameplay will look like in the DLC, though it seems likely that it could be similar to the originalKingdom Come: Deliverance’s From the Ashes DLC, which allowed players to rebuild and customize an entire village. There’s a chance Legacy of the Forge could take things even further than that, though.

Currently,Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2is without a proper endgame. Yes, players can continue to roam medieval Bohemia, complete any side quests they might have missed or ignored, and become the richest person in the world. However, there is no post-game grind for players to sink dozens of hours into that wasn’t already made available to them during the base game. As such, that leavesKingdom Come: Deliverance 2’s Legacy of the Forge DLC with an opportunity to pick up the slack and tack on an endgame loop that could add a brand-new layer to its gameplay.

Legacy of the Forge Might Turn KCD2’s Blacksmithing Into Its Own Post-Game Loop

From Story-Driven to Integrated Systems

What very little has been revealed about Legacy of the Forge makes it sound as though it will be a highly emotional and reflective journey for Henry as he uncovers his adoptive father’s legacy. In fact, this DLC could and likely will put the spotlight on Martin in such a way that it makes him more important to the overarching narrative than he has ever been. Regardless of where that story takes Henry, however, there is little doubt it will be a highlight of the whole expansion. Yet, it shouldn’t skimp on unique gameplay either, and that includes adding something that would contribute toKingdom Come: Deliverance 2’s lifespan.

As the gameplay portion of Legacy of the Forge unfolds alongside theDLC’s story, what is arguably most important is that any unique gameplay systems that are introduced not be restricted to specific story beats but that they are fully integrated into the base game as an ongoing loop that players can do even after the expansion’s main narrative comes to an end. This would not only potentially diversifyKingdom Come: Deliverance 2’s gameplay, but it would also give players more reason to continue playing the game beyond the usual “finish what’s left” and “play through it a second time, making different choices.”

Legacy of the Forge Could Be a Fully-Fledged Medieval Tycoon

AssumingLegacy of the Forgedoes take a cue fromKingdom Come: Deliverance’s From the Ashes DLC and lets players fully build, design, and operate their very own forge, that could offer a compelling gameplay loop that would keep players invested for dozens of extra hours. Specifically, it might make sense for players to rebuild the forge, then run it as a shop as a way to make an income. Perhaps players could take on custom orders from nobles and mercenaries, build reputation throughout Bohemia as a blacksmith, and even earn passive income while they’re away by hiring apprentices to help them.

This makes even more sense considering the name of theDLC inKingdom Come: Deliverance 2’s game files is “ForgeTycoon,” suggesting it very well might be a way for players to make a little extra money. Again, though, if the business were to end with the expansion’s story, it might feel a bit underwhelming as a gameplay addition. Instead,Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2should ensure it keeps that gameplay loop on board as something players can continue to contribute to as they play the game. This would be the proper endgameKCD2has always needed, and it would be a great way to shake up the formula.
