On Monday, June 30,Resident Evilfans will no longer be able to play the multiplayer gameResident Evil Re:Verse, marking the end of an era for the franchise. Capcom has taken many swings at a multiplayerResident Evilgame, with mixed results.Resident Evil Re:Versewas one of the strangest attempts, as instead of releasing it as a standalone product, Capcom released it as part ofResident Evil Village.
Resident Evil Villagewas released in 2021 as a strictly single-player experience. Its multiplayer component, the aforementionedRe:Verse, wasn’t available until late 2022. EssentiallyResident Evil’s take on the classic online multiplayer deathmatch mode,Re:Versefeatured iconic charactersand locations from the franchise. With it coming 1.5 years afterVillage’s launch, there was never much interest inRe:Verse, and ultimately, Capcom made the decision to shutter the game.
Resident Evil Re:Versewill shut down on June 29 at 11:59pm PT/June 30 at 1:59am CT/June 30 at 2:59am ET. OnceResident Evil Re:Verseservers are shut down, the game will become completely inaccessible toVillageowners and will effectively be lost to time.Resident Evil Re:Versewas not exactly a hit with fans. It earned negative reviews from those that did play it and mostVillageowners that got the game at launch probably didn’t even know it existed. Regardless,Re:Verseshutting down marks the end of an era forResident Evil, as it shows Capcom is now 100% done withVillageand looking ahead to the next main series entry,Resident Evil Requiem.
When is Resident Evil Re:Verse Shutting Down?
Resident Evil Village’s launch in 2021 was followed byRe:Versein 2022, theResident Evil 4remake in 2023, and then nothing for 2024 or 2025. TheResident Evilseries will make its triumphant comeback on June 12, 2025 with the launch ofResident Evil Requiem, which is effectively the follow-up toVillage.Requiemwill feature both first- and third-person view optionsand seemingly has a greater focus on horror thanVillage, though that remains to be seen.
No online multiplayer component has been announced forResident Evil Requiem, and it’s unlikely that one will materialize, considering howRe:Versewent. Still, that doesn’t mean that there isn’t a market for a multiplayerResident Evilgame.Resident Evil: Resistanceservers are still online at the time of this writing, and it’s safe to say that many fans would love to see theResident Evil: Outbreakgames make a comeback, especially withRequiemstarring the daughter ofOutbreakmainstay Alyssa Ashcroft.
