TheSystem Shock 2remaster was originally introduced as the Enhanced Edition before being renamed to the25th Anniversary Remaster. This was clearly done as a tribute to the original game’s 25th anniversary, coinciding with the release of the new edition. Interestingly, the original 1999 title is often regarded as aclassic horror game that didn’t sell well at launch. This remaster could, therefore, serve as a redemption arc, finally giving the game the broader recognition it deserves.

For those unfamiliar,System Shock 2features horror-driven gameplay, which remains intact in the remaster. Players must fend off hordes of mutants and robotic enemies while navigating the claustrophobic corridors of the FTL ship Von Braun. With the addition of co-op support, up to four players can now experience the same campaign together. Even better, the remaster includes mod support, opening the door to creative—and potentially hilarious—user-made additions in the near future. It’s worth noting, however, that the upcoming mods will likely be limited to the PC version, as console editions typically don’t support modding features.
