Summary

Since Gal Gadot is officially no longerWonder Woman, DC Studios has some large, superhero-sized boots to fill sometime in the near future. Luckily for DC fans, DC Studios co-head James Gunn is here to throw a little gasoline on that particular casting fire.

Wonder Womanisn’t simply one of the biggest superheroes inDC’s storied comic book history; she is one of the most important characters in the history of the entire medium. Created by psychologist/writer William Moulton Marston and artist Harry G. Peter, Princess Diana of Themyscira (or Diana Prince to us normal people) was introduced in 1941’sAll Star Comics#8. Wonder Woman took the world by storm and never really stopped. There is a reason she is considered to be a part of DC Comics' so-called “Trinity” along with Superman and Batman. Without those three heroes, there simply is no DC Comics as we know it. Diana Prince has been a part of numerous television shows and movies over the years, most recently portrayed by Gal Gadot in the now-defunct DCEU. She’ll clearly join therecently launched DC Universe (DCU)of connection films and shows at some point, but when?

AsSupermanis coming out in the not-too-distant future, James Gunn has been doing a lot of press, including a recent sit-down interview withExtra. When asked about following actors and actresses on social media, Gunn went on a bit of a tangent about one specific person: Adria Arjona.“You know, I followed Adria Arjona on Instagram,“Gunn began.“But everybody came out [saying], ‘He just followed her! That means she’s Wonder Woman! That means she’s Wonder Woman!’ She’d be a great Wonder Woman, by the way. But she was in a movie I made, you know, seven years ago. We’ve been friends and known each other since that time!“Clearly, no one has been cast asWonder Womanyet, but people keep going on about Arjona deserving the role online, and Gunn has quite obviously noticed.

James Gunn Agrees With The Internet Outcry Claiming Adria Arjona Would Make A Fantastic Wonder Woman

Gunn, as mentioned above, has worked with Arjona before on 2016’sThe Belko Experiment. Since that time, Arjona has had a lot of experience working on big-budget projects likePacific Rim Uprising,6 Underground, andMorbius. Of course, she has also gained a new level of fame in the past few years thanks toHit Man,Blink Twice, and (most important of all)Andor. Given her starring role in what just might bethe most critically acclaimedStar Warsprojectof all time, Arjona’s star is clearly still ascending, and being the next Wonder Woman would simply be the cherry on top.

Although Gadot made cameo appearances in bothShazam! Fury of the GodsandThe Flash, the writing has been on the wall for her version of the character for a long while now. 2020’sWonder Woman 1984received mixed reviews from critics and fans, and a sequel to that film was cancelled back in 2022 when James Gunn and Peter Safran took over DC’s film slate. Rumors circulated thatGadot could continue playing Wonder Womanin some capacity, but that proved not to be true when Gunn and Safran decided to revamp everything from the ground up.

Would Adria Arjona be an incredible choice forWonder Woman? Of course. Will she actually get the job? Who knows?
