Boruto Animator Says Two Blue Vortex Anime May Not Allow Fillers

Kyohei Ebata Reacts to Two Blue Vortex

TheBorutofandom is eating good this month, as Ikemoto cooked another explosiveTwo Blue Vortexchapter, continuing theintense fight between Boruto and Jura. On top of that, a recent comment from animator Kyohei Ebata sparked speculation, excitement, and concern regarding the direction of the upcomingBorutoPart 2 anime that’s expected to adapt events fromTwo Blue Vortex.

On X (formerly Twitter),Borutoanimator Kyohei Ebata, who served as animation director on episodes 287 and 293, recently shared his personal take onTwo Blue Vortex:

Kyohei Ebata’s comment is translated as follows:

BORUTO-TWO BLUE VORTEX It’s so serious that there doesn’t seem to be any room for original anime content.

I’ll walk my own path.—Boruto

If we can recall,BorutoPart 1 has over 290 episodes, many of them filler or anime-original content that slows down the central plot, explores side characters, and disrupts the flow of canon content. To this day, fans are still divided over the anime adaptation ofBoruto, with some enjoying these fillers while others criticize its direction.

Just How Serious Is Boruto: Two Blue Vortex?

All Action, No Filler?

From the beginning ofBoruto: Two Blue Vortex,Konoha has been at risk of destructionbecause of Code and his army of Claw Grimes. There’s little to no downtime in the manga, as the effects of Eida’s omnipotence are still active, meaning Boruto and Kawaki’s switched identities remain an unresolved problem. In chapter 1, Boruto even attacks Code, leading to a chain of unfortunate events.

The age of the shinobi is over.—Kawaki

Each monthly chapter ofTwo Blue Vortexincreases the stakes, introducing more problematic threats like Jura and the Humanoid God Trees. If this isn’t enough, the manga also reminds fans of a few more relevant troubles and mysteries, such as Akebi’s resurrection, the unsealing of Naruto, and Sasuke’s return. In other words, the story ofTwo Blue Vortexis more focused, leaving little to no space for filler content.

Could This Mean Boruto Part 2 Will Be a Seasonal Anime?

It’s Possible

As mentioned, Kyohei Ebata’s comments are not a confirmation of the new direction theTwo Blue Vortexanime will go. It’s just that his comment could give Studio Pierrot an idea aboutadapting the manga into a seasonal anime. Considering the number of chaptersTwo Blue Vortexhas so far, it would lead to a production bottleneck sooner or later should they proceed to faithfully adapt the source material without filler or anime-original content.

By makingBorutoPart 2 a seasonal anime, broadcasting in 12 or 13 episodes per season with longer breaks in between, Studio Pierrot and the many animators working behind the scenes could deliver a story that aligns more with the manga. Besides, there are many anime shows out there that have become successful with the same seasonal format. If it worked on series likeSolo Leveling,My Hero Academia, andDemon Slayer, it might also work onBoruto.
