Summary
While an ensemble show likeThe Rookieneeds solid main characters to keep viewers coming back, it’s only as good as its guest stars. Thankfully, the ABC procedural, which premiered in 2018, has had a solid batch of actors who pop in and out of John Nolan’s (Nathan Fillion) life. Many fans love seeing Skip Tracer Randy (Flula Borg), whoshowed up in season 7, episode 17with a crush, a grand plan, and a lot of chaos. There have been some great villains, too, including Oscar Hutchinson (Matthew Glave) who played a prominent part inthe season 7 finale, which followed an action movie format.
Although mostThe Rookieguest stars are compelling, one in particular made a great impression on viewers and on Fillion himself.Fillion shared a great story about one memorable guest star, and it would be fun to see them again in season 8.
Nathan Fillion Shared A Story About Pete Davidson, Who Should Appear Again In The Rookie Season 8
Pete Davidson played John Nolan’s half-brother Pete Nolan in three episodes ofThe Rookie, and Nathan Fillion shared a funny story about working with him in an interview withThe Hollywood Reporter. Fillion and Davidson first worked together on2021’sThe Suicide Squad, and Fillion talked about how he was unsure that they would get along. He said:
“One of the people I had the most fun with is Pete Davidson, whom I met onThe Suicide Squad. When I first met him, I thought, ‘He and I are probably not going to be best pals.’ And within four minutes, I was embarrassed and ashamed because I’d judged a book by its cover. He’s an incredibly kind man. Within two or three days, I invited him to do an episode, and he graciously accepted.”
Fillion continued thatDavidson “brings a flavor to the character that’s realistic.“Since Pete is nothing like Nolan and is a much more happy-go-lucky person who doesn’t like to think too far in the future, it’s a joy watching their scenes. Davidson should make at least one guest star appearance inThe Rookieseason 8, especially if he ended up helping Nolan on a case.
Since Nolan has helped Pete with his chaotic personal life before, it would be great to see Pete playing the role that Nolan usually does. Maybe Nolan could go through a rough patch withhis partner Bailey Nune (Jenna Dewan)and Pete helps him see that he’s in the wrong. However, Pete should only come back if he’s changed, at least a little bit. It would begreat to see Pete experience some character growth and become as mature and compassionate as his half-brother.It’s fun to see recurring guest stars, but they can’t be too boring or one-note.
Showrunner Alexi Hawley saidit would be great if Davidson appeared in season 8, but it depends on whether Davidson would have room in his packed schedule. Hopefully it’ll work out at some point and fans can see these half-brothers back together again.
