The Running Man Trailer Teases A Thrilling Ride And An Excellent Stephen King Movie Adaptation

Glen Powell plays Ben Richards inThe Running Man, a father who doesn’t have the financial means to help his daughter who has health problems. As the trailer begins, Ben is unemployed and has run into some bad luck, and a voice explains thatThe Running Manis:

“the biggest show in the country.”

All Ben has to do is"survive 30 days with the entire nation hunting you down"and he will get the money that he needs. Along his journey, Ben meetsproducer Dan Killian (Josh Brolin) and host Bobby Thompson (Colman Domingo), and the trailer shows several scenes of Ben trying to avoid explosions and masked killers as he’s chased all over the city. The Running Manremake looks like a jam-packed ride that rivalsthe most memorable Tom Cruise action movies, and the trailer teases the intense, dark, and riveting tone. The reality show is a huge spectacle, and when Bobby yells “Hunt him down!” it’s terrifying.

Written by Edgar Wright and Michael Bacall,The Running Manremake is just one of many 2025 Stephen King movies. Earlier this year,Osgood Perkins’sThe Monkeyadaptationcame out and its wild kill scenes got people talking. This summer, fans are enjoying the emotional tale ofThe Life of Chuck, which Mike Flanagan wrote and directed. In September, King’s other dystopian storyThe Long Walkwill be released in theaters. The Long WalkandThe Running Manshare a few similarities, asboth stories center around characters who enter a terrifying and dangerous competition.

According toBox Office Mojo, the 1987 film only grossed $38,122,105 domestically, despite the popularity of King’s work andSchwarzenegger’s star power. With a lot of hype surrounding Wright’s remake, andthe recent discussions of the many adaptations of King’s work, the new movie could fare better than the original at the box office.

While he has appeared in a few romantic comedies, including 2023’sAnyone But Youopposite Sydney Sweeney, Powell has a few action films on his resume. Besides playing Lieutenant Jake “Hangman” Seresin inTop Gun: Maverick,Powellplayed Gary Johnson inHit Manand Tyler Owens inTwisters. He’s also got some interesting projects lined up as he’s starring in a new J. J. Abrams film, which doesn’t have a title as of yet, and the dark comedyHuntington.
