Even though the entire focus ofDeath Stranding 2is the journeySam Bridges undertakes to connect people, players do not always want to cross vast distances again, especially when they must return to a place already visited. Fortunately, anyone worried about backtracking, whether on a second playthrough or while hunting down lost packages, can relax, because the game includesFast Travelmechanics, although they are not as straightforward as in other games.
This is becauseDeath Stranding 2does not grant access to fast transport the moment Sam is free to explore the world; instead, players must progress a bit in the main story, learning the ropes and building crucial infrastructure, before the option becomes available. For those eager to use the feature as early as possible, the following sections explain when it unlocks and what limitations the system imposes in this sequel, all discussed in the guide below.

How To Unlock Fast Travel In Death Stranding 2
Just like in the first game,Death Stranding 2makes players spend the opening hours learning the mechanics andtraversing the map on foot, often under harsh weather and uneven terrain conditions. To unlock fast travel, players must completeOrder No. 12, which maytake around ten hours to become available.
This mission sends Sam to investigate the appearance of tar in a region of Australia, revealing key information that drives the narrative forward, both for Sam and the fragile world he seeks to rebuild.

After the boss fight that concludes this mission and asizable batch of cutscenes tied to the main plot, the game informs Sam that theDHV Magellan, the airborne base inhabited by him and other characters, can now serve as a hub for Fast Travel. From there, it becomes possible to revisit areas in Mexico or Australia at any convenient moment, as long as they’ve already been explored and connected to the chiral network, allowing previously postponed deliveries to be completed.
How To Use Fast Travel In Death Stranding 2
To initiate fast travel, simply stand inside the DHV Magellan, open the map using the Options button, and hold X for a few seconds until the destination menu appears. Once the system is unlocked, the interface displays every location Sam can instantly revisit, effectively removing the need to retrace steps on foot and preserving both stamina and footwear durability.
Unlike the firstDeath Stranding, where players could jump to any place that housed a Private Room or a player-built safe house, fast travel in the sequel only functions between facilities Sam has linked to the Chiral Network. Consequently, the more the map is explored and the main mission advances, the broader the list of destinations that can be reached directly from the Magellan at the press of a button, greatly accelerating progression.

Despite the restriction on eligible sites, thefeature operates with considerable freedomand even allows Sam to transport any cargo currently in his possession to the chosen location. So, with the fast travel available, players can return anywhere on the map to settle unfinished business, whether clearing side orders or delivering lost packages or other valuable resources, earning precious Likes from the chiral network.
It’s possible to carry cargo during Fast Travel, but the delivery ratings will be lower. In other words, players can’t earn a like boost by getting an S-rank for delivering an undamaged order this way.

Fast Travel Through Transponders
While using the DHV Magellan is the most efficient way for players to Fast Travel, this mechanic tends to be somewhat limitedin terms of where Sam can access it, since the Dawnbridge ship cannot reach every location on the map. However, inDeath Stranding 2, it’s also possible to use transponders to Fast Travel to different areas across the map. To do this, the following steps are required:
This method is particularly useful during moments in the main campaign when, coincidentally, traditional Fast Travel isn’t available.

This allows players to build new structures that also enable fast travel — orBeach Jumps, as the transponder-based travel is called. However, unlike the DHV Magellan, which allows Sam to transport vehicles and cargo with him during the process, this method works similarly to the first game, where only the protagonist is transported, and any items are stored at the transponder that was activated.
