InAbiotic Factor, the opening mission tasks the player with making their way through a series of rooms andopening a locked cafeteria doorfor the trapped Dr. Jager. Even though this comes after the actual tutorial, it still serves to familiarize the player with many of the mechanics they’ll be using throughout the game. Still, there are several tricky elements to it, including the final step ofacquiring an Energy Brickto open the door. In this guide, we’ll walk you throughAbiotic Factor’s first mission, and show youhow to craft an Energy Brickandopen the cafeteria door.

How to Open the Cafeteria Door in Abiotic Factor

Opening Mission Walkthrough – Speak with Dr. Thule

Abiotic Factoropens by dropping the player into a seemingly innocuous situation inThe Office Sector, and offers very little in the way of hand-holding. The only direction you’ll receive comes fromDr. Thule, who can be found sitting on a bench in the cafeteria. Thule will inform you that his colleague,Dr. Jageris currently locked out of the cafeteria. He will task you withunlocking the cafeteria door, but offers no further guidance on how to accomplish this task.

Step 1: Locate the Vents in the Storage Room

The first location you’ll want to visit is theStorage Room, which can be found not far from the elevator. If you are exiting the lift, turn right and follow the wall. You’ll see the windows that allow you to see into the Storage Room. Walk down the steps to the lower level, then enter the Storage Room.

Make sure to grab as many of the loose items you come across as you can carry. You’ll findCloth Scrapson the bench next to Dr. Thule, and you’ll findDuct Tapeon the shelves in the Storage Room. Make sure to pick up theMetal Scrapsafter dismantling the vents. Almost every item you come across will have a use when you need to craft a bit later in the mission. It’s also important to note that picking up loose items and materials will sometimes unlock new crafting recipes; so pick up everything you can find, even if you must drop or stash it later.

Inside the Storage Room, you’ll see three vents in the wall at ground level. Use theDismantlemechanic to remove the vents. The third vent on the far right takes you into the next chamber, while the first two vents on the left are dead ends (though they both contain a single roll of duct tape). Once you are ready, press B/Circle to crouch, then enter the vent on the right.

Step 2: Combat Encounters

When you enter the next chamber after crawling through the vent, you should see aCloth Scrapsitting on the ground as you exit. Pick this up, then open the crafting menu. Here, you’ll want to craft your first set ofThrow Nets. You’ll only need a single piece of Cloth Scrap to make three nets.

Throw the net over the Carbuncle in the center of the chamber, then approach the trapped enemy to finish it off with theStompprompt. This will kill the Carbuncle. This method will work for all the enemies you come across before opening the cafeteria door.

Once the Carbuncle is dead, head through the gray door, and turn right. You’ll enter a backroom chamber with multiple fans. There will be another enemy in the center of the chamber that serves as a simple test of your net-throwing skills. Trap it, and stomp it. To exit this chamber, look for the vent with a yellow light. Enter the vent, and make sure to loot the items from theToolbox. You’ll need at least onescrewdrivergoing forward. Follow the vent’s sole path to its end. This will drop you into another backroom chamber.

As you drop into the lower chamber, look for the metal pipes that line the wall. They should all be highlighted in yellow. ensure to take the time to dismantle at least three of these, and take theMetal Pipesthat were created. If you don’t have the space, thePressure Gaugesaren’t necessary at this time, though they do unlock a few recipes.

Watch out for the third enemy attack that takes place in this chamber. It is the same enemy type, but will likely be much more mobile this time around. If you pay attention to its attacks, you can easily step out of the way when it jumps. Throw the net, then stomp it out. To exit this chamber, look for the orange door tucked away on the lower level.

After entering the next room, make sure to grab the Flashlight off the crate. Head through the next area, then turn right after the computer. This will lead you to the kitchen. Here, you’ll find multiple Metal Knives, which you should absolutely pick up, and acooking station. Watch out for multiple enemies. You’ll likely encounter the locked door that appears to lead to an office. This is the Security Office, which is your next destination. To reach it, you must exit the kitchen by pressing the green button on the wall at the metal gate.

After exiting the kitchen, turn left, and you’ll see the front door to the Security Office. If you look straight ahead, you’ll see the door where Dr. Jager is stuck, and an enemy that is eating away at some type of electronics. This is where you’ll need to use the Energy Brick. Enter the Security Office, then prepare for the next step of the process (see How to Craft an Energy Brick below).

Once you have the Energy Brick, return to the enemy that was eating the electronics in the wall. Kill the enemy, and you’ll see that you can now place an Energy Brick in the wall to repair the door’s lock function. Doing so will open the door, and end this mission.

Be careful when you finally open the Cafeteria Door. As soon as it is opened, a large enemy will jump and attack Dr. Jager from behind, then come after you. This enemy –called aPeccary– presents a much greater challenge than anything you’ve encountered up to this point. Make sure you are well-prepared before unlocking the cafeteria door.

How to Create an Energy Brick in Abiotic Factor

Check Crafting Recipes

After you enter the Security office, pass through the first room, and enter the second room where you’ll see a television and a coffee table with what appears to be two broken computers sitting on top. On the table, you’ll also find a piece ofTech Scrapin the form of a calculator, and aTable Leg.Pick up the Table Leg, and use it to bash the two computers.

After several hits, the computers will turn into several important components. Each computer will earn you the following items:

Luckily, these are also the majority of the items you’ll need to craft the Energy Brick, along with theTech Scrap. If you check your crafting recipes, you should now see the section forIDEA: Energy Brick. This is what you’ll use to unlock the actual crafting recipe. Now that you know the four items required to make the items (Tech Scrap, Circuit Board, Power Supply Unit, and Case Fan), place each item in the appropriate box, then click on the brain.

This will now allow you to craft the Energy Brick on any Powered Crafting Bench inAbiotic Factor.
