Sam will come face to face with a lot ofpowerful threatsinDeath Stranding 2: On The Beach. While even just some bandits can pose a threat to him and his cargo, BTs can mean an immediate game over as their goal is to kill any human they can. Even if your backpack is off, Sam isn’t the most agile person, so dodging is a necessity when trying to get out of the way of an enemy attack.
No matter what you’re up against, knowing when and how to dodge is a necessary skill to survive, though there isn’t just a simple dodge button like in other games. Here’s how to dodge inDeath Stranding 2: On The Beach.
How to Evade in Death Stranding 2: On The Beach
Sam only has one dodge, and that’s diving to the ground in the direction he is facing. There is one necessity to dodging, and that’sholding something and aim with it using L2. When aiming with something, you’re able to now dodge by pressing X, and Sam will dive in the direction your are currently moving. This dodge can be slow, and you commit to diving and having to get up afterwards, whereyour carry capacitywill play a role in how quick that happens.
If youpress X without holding L2 first Sam will instead jump, which can be used as a dodge in some situations. Sam’s jump doesn’t cover much distance though in a bind a few quick jumps can be used to get you out of a bad situation. Jumping also keeps Sam on his feet so you don’t commit to laying out onto the ground and having to get up in the middle of combat. Jumping also suffers from your carry weight and with enough packages his jump will get less and less effective.
It doesn’t matter what you are holding as long as it’s something that can be used by first holding L2.
Dodging can be very inefficient, so it should be used sparingly when fighting against a lot of enemies, specifically bandits. Against larger BTs, dodging is a necessity assome of their bigger attacks can give an instant game over. While Sam isn’t very mobile himself, most enemies won’t have quick attacks that require dodging. As long as you are constantly moving away from enemies, you’ll usually outpace most BTs in combat and will only need to dodge on occasion. If you do find yourself needing to move faster, dropping your backpackbefore a fight can help make your evade much more effective.
