Successfully completing paranormal investigations inPhasmophobiais an endeavor that takes a good amount of practice. However, if you manage to hone your supernatural detective skills and tackle every objective there is in each contract, you’ll be able to reap some truly lucrative rewards.

One of the most important things to go for during your investigations inPhasmophobiais the Perfect Investigation bonus. It can be tricky to figure out how to check off all the boxes, so here’s what it entails to ensure you get the bonus (hopefully) every time.

What is a Perfect Investigation in Phasmophobia?

A Perfect Investigation inPhasmophobiais a special bonus that you can earn during each of your investigations, whether it’s a regular one or a Weekly Challenge (e.g. -Hide and Seek Extreme). To earn it, you must complete all qualifying objectives and tasks during an investigation, and, of course, correctly identify the ghost at the location. If you fail to fulfill any of these requirements, you won’t receive the bonus.

You’ll see the bonus listed after finishing the investigation and viewing your results (as seen above).

Complete Optional Objectives

This objective requires you to complete all three optional objectives listed at the top of the bulletin board inside the van, next to the monitors. You can view them once the investigation has started, and they can also be checked via your journal while on-site. For instance, if you’re trying to lower your sanity below 25%, you can personally check if you’ve reached the threshold without having to return to the van.

These objectives can range from escaping the ghost during a hunt to evidence-related ones, such as catching the ghost on a Motion Sensor or having it extinguish a Firelight. As of the Chronicle update, other possible optional objectives can include the following:

You need to complete all three objectives listed to get the bonus, so make sure you don’t leave the location before doing so.

Complete Media Objectives

The other type of objectives you need to complete for the Perfect Investigation bonus are your Media objectives, which are all found in the ‘Media’ tab of your journal. They’re subdivided into three categories: Photo, Video, and Sounds. You need to completely fill each of these categories to satisfy the ‘Media’ objective as a whole for the investigation.

For Photos, you need to use a Photo Camera to take a total of five photos that each qualify as ‘Unique’. Opportunities for these photos range from certain types of evidence (e.g. - EMF Reading, Ghost Writing, UV prints) to ghost activities such as objects being thrown or moved, flickering lights, extinguishing Firelights, etc. Special activities, including ghost events and hunts, also qualify.

For Videos, you need to use any available Video Cameras (CCTV or the ones provided in your loadout) to capture five clips of footage (again, each one ‘Unique’). Similar to photos, qualifying instances of footage can include equipment-related occurrences such as EMF Readings, Crucifixes burning, the ghost walking through a DOTS projector, and more. They can also include object-related activities such as items being thrown, doors being moved or closed, a shower being turned on, etc.

For Sounds, you need to use the Sound Recorder tool to capture three clips of special sounds (again, each one ‘Unique’). These can include sounds from the ghost itself, indicated as “paranormal sounds”. They range from groans to whispers or laughter. Other potential sounds can include a Spirit Box response, an EMF reading, a Firelight being extinguished, a Crucifix burning, etc. Furthermore, if a singing-type ghost event occurs, that counts as well.

Find and Collect the Bone

During each investigation inPhasmophobia, one special item that you can and should find at the location is a human bone. These can resemble a variety of shapes, such as a hand (seen above), a spine, a ribcage, a skull, and more. When you find each type of bone for the first time, it’ll be added to your display cases in the main lobby.

While collecting the bone is all you need to do for this unspoken objective, it can also help you to take a photo of it, as it’ll count toward your collected photos. The bone itself will randomly spawn somewhere on the map, and it can be difficult to locate depending on the size of the map you’re on. Certain maps, such as Prison or Sunny Meadows, are typically discouraged for searching for the bone, as the sheer amount of time it can take to find it only makes the investigation itself more difficult. The expense of sanity and any other resources, such as sanity medication, may not be worth the search.

The exception to this is, if you happen to get the Ouija Board cursed object, you’re able to ask it where the bone is located. Just make sure you have enough sanity and/or the ability to recover it afterward (and tell the board “goodbye” to prevent a cursed hunt!).

Correctly Identify the Ghost

Finally, as with any investigation you embark on in the game, you obviously need to correctly identify the ghost by its type. Every type of ghost is listed in the journal on the ‘Evidence’ tab, and it’s a process of elimination. As you gather more evidence and observe special behaviors from the ghost, the possible choices will be narrowed down. Once you have all three pieces of traditional evidence checked in the boxes above, you should be left with one option to circle.

There can be exceptions to this, as the Mimic ghost type will include an additional piece of evidence in the form of Ghost Orbs, to try and throw you off. So make sure your certain of every piece of evidence before you circle a choice and close up the van.
