Summary
Season 1 of theSolo Levelinganime was a huge worldwide success and, against all odds, Season 2 managed to surpass it in every conceivable way, further cementing this series as one of the mainstays of the power fantasy subgenre. To make things even better, A-1 Pictures - the studio behind this excellent adaptation of Chu-gong’s original manhwa – confirmed thatSeason 3is already in production, and it will be released in the near future.
The previous two seasons were already full of incredible fights, terrifying monsters, and memorable characters, but those who have read the manhwa from beginning to end know that the upcoming third season is going to get even better.Solo Levelingfans should definitely get excited, because here are several solid reasons why Season 3 will most likely surpass Season 2.
1The Battles Will Get Even Bigger And Better
The Show’s Biggest Selling Point Won’t Disappoint
Solo Levelingis known for its over-the-top cinematicfight scenes, and Season 2 delivered on that front with some of the best animated action sequences in the entire medium. Prominent examples include Sung Jinwoo’s encounters against Baruka, Kargalgan, Baran, and the Ant King, but there are many more worth watching. There’s no denying that this is the show’s biggest selling point, and most viewers are looking forward to the upcoming season just to witness even more epic animated battles.
Fortunately for them,Season 3 will not disappoint, because the battles will get even bigger and better. Jinwoo will have to face powerful new foes like Kandiaru, Thomas Andre, and the Monarchs, and every single one of these encounters is a spectacle of epic moments and fantastical powers. If A-1 Pictures animates each one of them with its signature high-quality animation, choreography, music, and voice acting, these fights have the potential to surpass everything the studio has produced in Seasons 1 and 2.
2New Villains
The Main Antagonists Of The Series Will Finally Make Their Move
The first two seasons ofSolo Levelingdidn’t really have an overarching antagonist, since Sung Jinwoo’s opponents were either random boss monsters (like Kargalgan and the Ant King) or corrupt humans using their powers for evil (like Kang Taeshik or the Lizards). This show is in dire need of a concrete main group of villains, and fortunately, they’ll finally arrive in the upcoming third season.
The Monarchs, a group of extremely powerful beings that rule over the entire world, are the main antagonists of theSolo Levelingseries, and curiously enough, two of them have already made a brief appearance in the Season 2 finale. With their unique designs, evil personalities, and incredible powers, they’ll undoubtedly become the biggest highlights of Season 3, while also allowing the narrative to become more focused and concise.
3Higher Stakes
Sung Jinwoo Is On A Mission To Save The World
Since this is a power fantasy series at its core, Sung Jinwoo spent most of the first two seasons getting stronger to become a more efficient hunter, provide for his family, and save the life of his sick mother. Becoming rich and famous while also proving everybody who doubted him wrong was just a bonus. The Jeju Island Arc was the first time in the anime where the stakes got relatively high, as the main character successfully saved the lives of the strongest hunters from two different countries, and things are going to get even more intense from there.
The sudden appearance of the Monarchs, combined with the arrival of the International Guild Conference, will finally put Jinwoo’s abilities to the test. In Season 3 and onwards, the story won’t focus on the main character’s selfish objectives anymore, since he’ll actually have to use his powers tosave the world. Jinwoo has gotten so strong that he’s the only one who can do it, and the series will get even more interesting and engaging as a result of this sudden shift in dynamic.
4Powerful Hunters From Other Countries
It’s Time To See The S-Rankers From America, China, And Germany In Action
TheSolo Levelinganime has already introduced the concept of S-Rank hunters from other countries outside of South Korea, and some of them, likeThomas AndreandLiu Zhigang, even made a few brief appearances. This is a brilliant way of expanding the world-building while also establishing that there are legendary hunters out there who may even be able to match Sung Jinwoo’s immense strength.
Season 3 will finally allow all these international hunters to shine, since they’ll play a very important role in the story. Of course, Andre and Zhigang will come back and display their incredible abilities, but many other notorious international S-Rankers that haven’t appeared in the anime will also make their debut, like Christopher Reed and Lennart Niermann. While A-1 Pictures may just adapt their scenes from the manhwa one-to-one, if the studio makes multiple brand-new anime original scenes starring these S-Rankers, Season 3 is going to surpass both the previous seasons and the source material with flying colors.
5New Shadows
Powerful Shadows Will Join Sung Jinwoo’s Massive Army
There are many reasons why Season 2 was even more popular and successful than Season 1, with one of the biggest ones being the introduction of Sung Jinwoo’sshadow soldiers. Not only is Shadow Extraction a fascinating and unique ability for a main character to have, but many of the shadows he recruited with it have interesting designs and personalities of their own, like Igris, Tank, Iron, and Beru.
Solo Levelingfans who are eager to see Jinwoo recruiting even more shadows for his army should get excited, because Season 3 will introduce some of the most powerful members of his army so far. Somenotorious examples include Jima, Greed, and maybe even Bellion, and fans are surely going to adore seeing them all in action.
6Exciting Revelations
Fans Will Finally Get Some Much-Needed Answers About The Player System
While there’s no denying thatSolo Leveling’s action has been amazing from the get-go, the first episode of this show also introduced an extremely intriguing mystery surrounding its main gimmick: the player system that allows Jinwoo to level up. Where did it come from? Who created it? As fun and exciting as the previous two seasons were, they didn’t really answer any of these questions.
Fans that are dying to know more should rest easy, because Season 3 is finally going to answer them, and fortunately, it leads to one of the most interesting and best-written parts of this admittedly simple storyline. Back in Season 2, Jinwoo obtained a special key to the Double Dungeon in which he originally awakened his powers, and he’ll finally go there in the middle of Season 3,where he’ll meet the one and onlyArchitect, the being responsible for the creation of the player system.
7The Romance Subplot Will Be Way More Focused
One Ship Will Finally Set Sail
SinceSolo Levelingis a conventional power fantasy story, many female characters have shown interest in Sung Jinwoo at one point or another, like Lee Johee, Han Song-Yi, and Cha Hae-In. Many viewers found this part of the show to be quite annoying and pandering, but fortunately for them, these “harem shenanigans” will finally be put to an end in Season 3,as Jinwoo will choose to pursue just one of hisromantic interests.
In an industry that’s filled to the brim with generic power fantasy anime where the protagonist builds a harem of one-dimensional romantic interests and rarely chooses one, this decision was a breath of fresh air. Additionally, it also allows the story to further develop Jinwoo’s character while also showcasing a whole new side of his personality that very rarely comes out during battles.
8A-1 Pictures Is Taking Its Time
It’s A Long Wait, But It’ll Be Worth It
It’s quite evident that pretty much everything aboutSolo LevelingSeason 3, from the fights to the villains and the storyline, will be bigger, better, and more ambitious than ever before. As exciting and promising as all of these sound, it’s also extremely important that the talented animators atA-1 Picturestake as much time as they need to make sure they’ll be able to live up to these high levels of hype.
Multiple producers at Aniplex have already confirmed that Season 3 is currently in productionand that the animation process is taking so much time, effort and resources that they are unsure when it will exactly come out, although most experts estimate that it’ll be in either 2027 or 2028, two or three years after the final episode of Season 2 aired. Many shows in the modern anime industry often have rushed productions with overworked employees, so at least it’s a relief to know that the staff ofSolo Levelingis taking its time to deliver the best product it can, even if it means fans will have to keep waiting a little bit longer.
