Carrying out successful air strikes inBroken Arrowis not always tied to a flawless aircraft build. Of course, using ECM builds with accurate and powerful bombs is essential for effective assaults, but these are not all the necessary steps, especially for a nuclear bombardment.
Broken Arrowrequires initiating a precision strike when using some of the most powerful bombs or missiles, as they cannot be shot like normal missiles. And precision strike is not something an aircraft can accomplish on its own, as it needs to rely on Recon units to complete such an attack.
How Does Precision Strike Work in Broken Arrow?
In order to start a precision strike, the player needs tospawn a Reconunit before spawning the aircraft capable of doing a precision strike. However, not all Recon units can help with that.The recon unit must have the ability to laser designate. This will be represented by a laser icon on the unit’s information card.
Send the Recon unit towards your target on the map, and then use the laser designation option to point a laser at the target. Keep in mind that laser designation is limited by a specific range, and the recon unit must have a line of sight over the target.
This can be done with drones a lot easier, but with the presence of strong anti-air systems, drones cannot hold on to the target long enough. Remember thatthe laser must be pointed at the target until the missile from the aircraft lands on it. So, sneaky recon units on the ground are a lot safer for this purpose, especially when hidden among the trees.
Once the target is marked by the laser, you can order a precision strikeon the marked area from the aircraft’s control panel. It’s worth noting that initiating a precision strike by an aircraft without having a marked area will result in a null order, and the pilot will not obey.
