Metal Gearcreator Hideo Kojima recently shared some brief thoughts on the upcomingMetal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. The originalMetal Gear Solid 3is considered by many to be the crown jewel of the massively influentialMetal Gearfranchise, and Konami will finally release an updated remake on August 28. Just like the original,Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eateris a prequel starring Big Boss, who must embark on a dangerous mission to undermine a Soviet superweapon during the Cold War.

WhileMetal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eaterwill retain the stealth gameplay and memorable characters that made theoriginalMetal Gear Solid 3a classicto many gamers, Hideo Kojima himself isn’t involved in any capacity. This is due in part to Kojima’s very public falling out with Konami back in 2015, which ultimately led to the establishment of formerMetal Geardeveloper Kojima Productions as the standalone studio that would go on to create theDeath Strandingseries.

Fans have been wondering howMetal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eaterwill fare without Hideo Kojima, and the legendary creative recently weighed in on the upcoming remake in an interview withSsense. Kojima was asked if he would playMetal Gear Solid Deltawhen it launches on August 28, and he simply laughed and said that he won’t. He made no further comment onMetal Gear Solid Deltaat this time.

Hideo Kojima Won’t Be Playing Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater

Kojima would go on to describe how he chose to makeDeath Stranding 2: On the Beachinstead of pursuing a new project because it is his IP, and that his goals of expanding into other media like anime and films come from his “business side.” He also has two other video games in the works at the moment:OD,a surreal horror title Kojima is co-writingalongside noted Hollywood director Jordan Peele, and a supposedMetal Gearsuccessor tentatively titledPhysint. Outside of gaming, a live-actionDeath Strandingmovie is being written and directed byA Quiet Place: Day Onedirector Michael Sarnoski.

With all of these projects in the works, it looks like Hideo Kojima will be too busy to try outMetal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. Hisabsence from theMetal Gearseriessince 2015’sMetal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Painhas naturally raised many questions about how the franchise will continue without its creator, though Konami has promised thatMetal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eaterwill remain faithful to the 2004 original. Fans will get to see this for themselves when the remake launches in late August.
