If not for one’s civic duty and the pride gained upon seeing democracy’s promise shining bright across the cosmos, Major Orders inHelldivers 2are an engaging way to have players all working collectively toward a common goal, even if that goal is strictly the 50 Warbond medals earned via a successful Major Order. Plus, it’s eternally entertaining to watch as Major Order progression ensues live inHelldivers 2because players can witness others’ gameplay preferences and the race to completion with days, hours, and minutes on the clock in real time.

Helldivers 2’s current Major Order, with roughly 12 hours remaining, reads:

Indeed, players don’t have much time left to secureHelldivers 2’s current Major Order, and the race for players either winning or losing it is becoming agonizingly close as hours inch by. However, as a miraculous gift from Arrowhead and High Command alike, players who’ve been tackling this MO since its inception may notice that the required number of Leviathans they must kill has been drastically reduced. Because of this MO adjustment, players might just have a chance to win.

Helldivers 2’s Major Order Adjustment is About to Win the Whale Hunt

In what will surely prove to be a massive degree of assistance from Arrowhead, the number ofHelldivers 2’s Leviathansplayers must shoot out of the sky in this Major Order dropped from a whopping 3,750,000, which now seems laughably astronomical and in no way feasible, to 1,500,000 for a short while, and a tenable and fair 750,000 as it stands. Considering that little more than half a day is left to conquer the MO, the ‘750,000’ nudges players a lot closer to the finish line than they were a day or two ago.

This is all because of players’ “enthusiasm,” perhaps as Helldivers have bonded together to devise creative strategies on how to send these ‘whales’ careening down into the Mega Cities they drift above. TheMajor Order adjustmentreads:

“Patriotic footage generated by the Helldivers thus far has had a greater-than-expected impact on citizen inspiration, evidently due to the tactical enthusiasm on display. Innovative Leviathan hunting techniques have had a particularly outsized effect.

Consequently, High Command has lowered the required Leviathan kill count by 50%, and authorized deployment of the Expendable Anti-Tank Stratagem to facilitate efforts to eliminate this deadly airborne enemy.”

Helldivers 2’s Leviathans May Soon Be Dealt with, But That Leaves One More Foe

If several milestone incentives and temporary arsenal augmentations haven’t expressed it enough, this adjustment has made it painstakingly obvious that Arrowhead is going all-in on players hopefully winning the Major Order. Perhaps Arrowhead feels obligated to see players succeed while it’s on a two-week vacation, or has specific plans in mind for howHelldivers 2’s ongoing narrativecan proceed if players win the MO.

Nonetheless, if players do fail to kill all required Leviathans, the blame cannot possibly be on Arrowhead for not supplying them with enough weaponry or throwing too many Leviathans at them when all is said and done.

Funny enough, Leviathans may no longer be what causes players to fail this MO. A successful MO is fully doable, but it’ll require whale hunters to retire their harpoons on Illuminate planets, postpone their poaching celebrations, and concentrate all efforts on bludgeoning the remaining 20% ofAutomatons’ Factory Strider AT-ATs. Trailing behind Leviathans by 10% at the time of this writing, players will need to divert attention sooner or later as the Leviathans’ Major Order adjustment is being taken advantage of.
