AHelldivers 2player has shared an amusing moment in which, due to an in-game bug, their character appears to die from no less than a mysterious, sudden “heart attack.” As a cooperative multiplayer shooter that pits teams against billions of hostile aliens,Helldivers 2players take plenty of casualties, including from some odd, inexplicable deaths.

IfHelldivers 2players know anything about the never-ending Galactic War waged by Super Earth against its enemies, it’s that casualties are inevitable. In fact, when a player is killed in-game, they return to the battlefield in control of an entirely different soldier with a randomized voice and body type. This reinforces the surprisingly darklore of theHelldiversuniverse, where even elite Helldivers are nothing more than expendable pawns meant to die defending Super Earth’s interests.

Many players expect to die fighting fearsome aliens, or even suffering from unfortunately commonHelldivers 2friendly fire. They don’t anticipate suddenly keeling over and dying, as happened in a brief clip shared by player Mavo1229 on Reddit. After escaping from a burning Fast Recon Vehicle using the newly added Warp Pack gear, Mavo1229 sprinted for an objective, only to begin inexplicably suffering damage. They fell over, their health dropping to a minimum, then expired ignominiously on the ground. Mavo1229 humorously characterized the unexplained death as a “heart attack.”

Helldivers 2 Sync Error Leads to Hilarious “Heart Attack” Death Of One Unlucky Player

Helldivers 2fans on the subreddit were amused by the clip of Mavo1229’s death, given that they suffered no apparent external damage. Since sniper-type foes are rare among theenemy factions ofHelldivers 2, it was unlikely that enemy fire killed Mavo1229. Some players joked that the trauma of fighting an intense galactic war for more than a year is finally taking its toll on the soldiers of Super Earth. Others suggested that the strain of running at full speed on a planet rated for “Intense Heat” was too much for Mavo1229.

One player chimed in with a likely explanation, saying that such deaths often occur from desynchronization errors caused by network lag. In this case, the desynchronization bug may have occurred when Mavo1229 used the highly convenientHelldivers 2Warp Packto blink away from the burning wreck. The server likely failed to record the movement, and likely still had Mavo1229’s position recorded as being close to the wreck as it exploded, causing lethal damage and knockdown. When the server synchronized properly, the damage “caught up” to Mavo1229, killing them long after they thought they had escaped.

It can be infuriating to lose progress due to bugs outside of one’s control. But whileHelldivers 2has suffered its fair share of technical issues, it’s good that such bugs are now rare enough to cause amusement rather than frustration forplayers.
