Grand Theft Auto 6’s take onGrand Theft Auto Onlineshould be good, but fans of another Rockstar title may feel left in the cold. WithGTA Onlinebeing such a hit for Rockstar, it’s hard to imagine thatGrand Theft Auto 6won’t expand on it in some way. Exactly how it would do so isn’t clear yet, but there is a lot of potential for what could be done. However, some players may not welcome the new installment with open arms, especially those who favor a less fortunate recent Rockstar title.

GTA 6’s latest trailerpoints towards a lot of new opportunities thatGrand Theft Auto Onlinecan take once the game launches. Of course, the ability for players to take their characters into a revamped Vice City is near the top of the list. Considering how there are a lot of ways thatGTA 6can differ from its predecessor mechanically, players might need to come up with entirely new strategies to thrive in online play.Grand Theft Auto Online’s future is looking more interesting withGTA 6on the horizon. Despite this exciting future, thecontinued support ofGTA Onlinecan feel bitter to fans ofRed Dead Online. Released the year afterRed Dead Redemption 2,Red Dead Onlinewas that franchise’s version ofGrand Theft Auto Online. Just likeGTA Online, players can create their own characters and explore the same world that they traverse during the main story, with a new slate of challenges and events to take part in. Unfortunately,Red Dead Onlinedid not have the same longevity as its fellow online Rockstar game, and never managed to reach the same lofty heights or amount of content.

It should be noted that prior to the release ofRed Dead Online’s Strange Tales of the West, the game had not seen a significant expansion or content release since 2022. Aside from small events and bonuses, it seemed thatRed Dead Onlinehad been left without future content after only three years. At the same time,Grand Theft Auto Onlinehas been running strong for over a decade with new weapons, vehicles, and missions being added through regular updates. The difference between the two games and their track records is staggering. EvenRed Dead Online’s surprise addition of new missions doesn’t change that.

Rockstar outright announced in 2022 thatRed Dead Onlinewould receive no more major updates, making the recent update all the more surprising.
