WithGrand Theft Auto 5turning a whopping twelve years old this year, its enduring popularity and relevance remains surprising. The fun and absurd rendition ofGTA 5’s Los Santosmight be partially responsible for this long-lasting visibility, as can the game’s wickedly endearing cast of characters, but its gameplay holds up rather well too.
Of course, it’s not likeGTA 5has particularly deep or nuanced mechanics—few Rockstar games do. Rather, its interactive appeal lies in the adult-playground nature of its open world, as there’s seemingly no end of entertainment to be found in its vast sandbox. Whether one is picking fights with cops, attempting physically questionable vehicular stunts, or experimenting with different, unsanctioned methods of traversal,GTA 5is never short on fun factor, and cheat codes help support that.
S-Tier: GTA 5 Cheats That Are Fun and Helpful
ThebestGTA 5cheat codesare the ones that are either especially useful or offer a unique spin on the core gameplay loop, since most cheat users have likely already beaten the game. Cheats like Invincibility, Bang Bang, and Slow Motion Aim obviously fall into the former category, but they are also incredibly fun to use; if someone already has dozens or hundreds of hours inGTA 5, these mechanical tweaks can redefine their experience with the game. Other cheats in this tier, like Moon Gravity, may not exactly be that helpful, but they offer enough novelty to be fun, specifically in ways that the vanillaGTA 5experience can’t match.
A-Tier: Helpful, but Kind of Boring, GTA 5 Cheats
GTA 5has far fewer “wacky” cheats than some of its predecessors, and that’s evidenced by the cheats in this tier. A good portion of the game’s cheat codes result in spawning various vehicles, but unlike the Buzzard Attack Helicopter and Stunt Plane cheats in the S-Tier, the vehicle-related cheats in this tier are more pedestrian, offering high-end cars and bikes that are easier to find organically than aircraft. Similarly, Max Health and Armor, and Give Weapons, are practical shortcuts rather than wild spins onvanillaGTA 5.
B-Tier: Unique but Underwhelming GTA 5 Cheats
Recharge Ability and Give Parachute are other practical shortcuts, though they aren’t quite as helpful as something like Give Weapons. Character-specific abilities are among the more easily forgettable aspects ofGTA 5’s gameplay, as Trevor’s and Michael’s powers are rarely actually needed, and Franklin’s driving slow-down ability is easily recharged. Plus, other cheats like Invincible and Slow Motion Aim accomplish the same things as Trevor’s and Michael’s abilities, only without the limitations, making Recharge Ability a bit redundant. For its part, Skyfall is more of a novelty than anything else, as it’s not much more effective than spawning a helicopter or plane.
C-Tier: One-Time GTA 5 Novelties
Drunk Mode, Slidey Cars, and Slow Motion (perpetual, not conditional like Slow Motion Aim) are the most uselesscheats inGTA 5. Drunk Mode is good for a brief laugh, but all it does is apply the same in-game drunk effects that result from making the characters drink alcohol, while Slow Motion just makes the game a bit frustrating and tedious. Similarly, Slidey Cars is good for a bit of no-frills chaos, but it doesn’t provide any meaningful gameplay advantages, and its novelty wears off quickly.
