Ned Luke, Shawn Fonteno, and Steven Ogg have all said it would be “great” for theirGrand Theft Auto 5characters to return in the series' next installment,Grand Theft Auto 6. The actors are well-known for their portrayals of Michael De Santa, Franklin Clinton, and Trevor Phillips inGrand Theft Auto 5, and while the majority of the game’s protagonists and side characters have gone on to return in variousGrand Theft Auto Onlineupdates, many fans would love to see the trio make a return for a “final score” inGrand Theft Auto 6.
Since its launch in 2013,Grand Theft Auto 5has been re-released on multiple console generations. What began as a PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 game has now gone on to be released for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, and most recently, an “enhanced” version for PC players. But after over a decade of graphical upgrades and multiplayer updates, fans are finally ready to say goodbye to Los Santos and hello to Vice City, asGrand Theft Auto 6will officially release on June 10, 2025. Although many will be happy to see the back of Los Santos, there are quite a few players who don’t want to let go of the game’s three main protagonists just yet.
Grand Theft Auto 5 Actors Want to Return in GTA 6
TheGrand Theft Autoseries is often filled with easter eggs and callbacks to previous entries, withGrand Theft Auto 5even killing off a main character fromGTA 4, but it’s very rare for a protagonist to make a prominent return in a follow-up entry. However, the three main protagonists ofGrand Theft Auto 5are arguably the franchise’s most iconic, so it should come as no surprise that fans are eager for them to return in the next installment, and it looks like they’re up for it too. During a recent Comic Con Panel (thanks,Dexerto), the trio was asked their thoughts on returning in a potentialGrand Theft Auto 6DLC, to which they all agreed would be “great.” They then joked that fans should campaign for Rockstar to give the trio one “final score.”
The gaming world will know Ned Luke, Shawn Fonteno, and Steven Ogg forGrand Theft Auto 5, but all three have massively successful acting careers outside of video games. Ogg, for example, has appeared inBetter Call Saul,The Walking Dead,Snowpiercer, and more. Luke, on the other hand, has featured inLaw & Order,Boardwalk Empire,NYPD Blue, and more. Despite the fact that all three have plenty to keep them busy, the trio appears to be eager to return to their iconicGTAcharacters.
In the years after the release ofGrand Theft Auto 5, many began to question whether or not Steven Ogg, who portrays psychopathic Trevor Phillips, was attempting to distance himself from the character. However, after years of speculation, Ogg put the rumors to bed and clarified that hedoes not hate his character inGrand Theft Auto 5and described Trevor as “awesome.” The actor explained that he has no ill will toward the character, but does take umbrage at those who refer to him as Trevor instead of his real name, Steven.
Out of the three main protagonists inGrand Theft Auto 5, Ned Luke is currently the only one not to feature a prominent role inGrand Theft Auto Online. Shawn Fonteno famously returned to his iconic character Franklin Clinton forGTA Online’s The Contract update, while Steven Ogg has featured as Trevor Phillips multiple times inGTA Onlinein more minor appearances. Fans have long been requesting a special DLC dedicated to Michael De Santa. But withGrand Theft Auto 6fast approaching, it looks like there might be a better chance of the character returning in the next game.
