What’s Going on With the Future of Super?

Goku’s VA Knows Just As Much As You Do… Or So He Says

Dragon Ball Superfans have been waiting on news of the series’ return for what must feel like an eternityat this point. The anime left off with the conclusion of the Universe Survival Saga,

followed by theDragon Ball Super: BrolyandDragon Ball Super: Super Heromovies. The manga recently finished adapting the Super Hero Saga, with the cliffhanger reveal of Black Frieza (which happened all the way back in 2022) yet to be addressed.

The tragic and sudden passing ofseries creator Akira Toriyama, alongside legal disputes between Shueisha and Capsule Corp, look to have put the series in an impossible situation. But with Toyotarou officially taking over for his mentor, things might finally be picking up.

I would love to know first, they just don’t trust that I wouldn’t tell you. Which I won’t.

For those hoping thatDragon Ball’sEnglish voice cast might have some concrete answers, it seems like they’re just as in the dark as the rest of the fan base. Schemmeldiscussed the future of the series, and while he does seem excited forSuperto return, it doesn’t look like Toei is sharing secrets with the series’ voice actors. Schemmel admitted as much, saying, “Honestly, I don’t know anything. If I did know, I’d say ‘I know, and I can’t tell you’, but I don’t know.”

It Looks Like He’s Ready to Get Back In the Booth

Schemmel also touched on thetransition from Akira Toriyama to Toyotarou, saying, “Toyotarou is blessed by Akira Toriyama Sensei because he’s quoted as saying that he’s the only guy that draws like Akira Toriyama Sensei, so he’s got that sanction and I think it’s legit and awesome.”

Schemmel went on to praiseSuper’snarrative, particularly the content that hasn’t been adapted for the anime yet. The long-time voice actor spoke highly of the Galactic Patrol Prisoner and Granolah the Survivor Sagas in particular.

“I think the story of Super is just fantastic. What I know of Moro, Granolah, and Frieza Black, etc. I know a little bit, right? And I’m ready. Here’s my fear. Look, I go hard, I go high, I go loud as far as I can. I don’t know how much further I can go, and I don’t know where they’re going to go with that animation.”

Schemel alsorevealed that he and Vegeta’s voice actor, Christopher Sabat, were ahead of the curve when it came to figuring out what the new series would have in store for Goku and Vegeta. “Chris and I, when we were first working on Super we thought, ‘Are Goku and Vegeta being groomed to be the new Gods of Creation and Destruction with Whis and Beerus?’ And it seems like they’re hinting at that.” That just goes to show that no matter how big of a fan you are, no one quite knowsDragon Balllike Sean Schemmel.
