Sucker Punch Productions Creative Director Nate Fox is hoping to revisit theInfamousseries. While the industry veteran has not committed to any concrete plans, he suggested that were Sucker Punch to go back toInfamousafter wrapping up work onGhost of Yotei, re-releases are more likely than a new original entry—at least initially.

Started in 2009, theInfamousfranchisewas Sucker Punch’s take on the superhero genre, offering open-world gameplay combining hectic combat, selective environmental destruction, and moral choices. Apart from the three mainline games, the Bellevue, Washington-based developer also released two standalone expansions forInfamous 2andInfamous Second Son, subtitledFestival of BloodandFirst Light, respectively. The latter hit the market in August 2014 and was the last piece ofInfamousmedia to date. VGChartz estimates thatSecond Sonand the originalInfamoussold around 7.3 million copies combined, with the overall franchise sales possibly already clearing the 10 million mark.

While theInfamousseries has been dormantfor over a decade, it’s not necessarily gone forever. Sucker Punch Creative Director Nate Fox “would love to work on moreInfamous,” having said as much in a recent interview withGame Informer. Although fans have long been hoping for a new entry in the franchise, Fox indicated that his initial focus might be on modernizing the existing titles. “I would love to see a trilogy re-release,” he said.

Sucker Punch Is Currently Focused on Ghost of Yotei

All thistalk about revisitingInfamousremains purely hypothetical. “Sucker Punch is a one-game-at-a-time-shop, and right now, we are very focused on finishing Ghost of Yotei,” Fox explained. The studio’s next game is currently scheduled for an October 2 release, exclusively on the PlayStation 5. Fox is co-directingGhost of Yoteialongside Jason Connell.

I would love to work on more Infamous. I would love to see a trilogy re-release, but Sucker Punch is a one-game-at-a-time-shop, and right now, we are very focused on finishing Ghost of Yotei.

New Infamous Game Likely Won’t Be Announced Anytime Soon

Sucker Punch has historically announced its games one to two years before release. Given that modern AAA development cycles typically span at least five years, the chances of a newInfamoustitle being announced soon appear low. While the trilogy re-release Fox mentioned would likely require less time, Sucker Punch’s focus on developing one game at a time also makes such a project unlikely to be confirmed or completed in the near future.

Remasters of theInfamoustrilogycould prove to be an effective way of gauging fan interest in a proper sequel. While the series still enjoys a cult following, such a test might be a necessity in this day and age, in light of the ever-ballooning development budgets and the fact that 11 years have passed since the lastInfamousgame.
