FromSoftwareis reportedly working on a multi-platform project codenamed FMC. The Japanese company is already involved in several simultaneous projects, including the newly announcedThe Duskbloodsand a new DLC forElden Ring: Nightreign. However, it seems there’s more onFromSoftware’s plate than just those.

Giving codenames to unannounced titles is a common practice among video game developers. FromSoftware itself has used unique codenames for some of its previous projects, including many installments in thebelovedDark SoulsseriesandArmored Corefranchise. One of these recently surfaced codenames is now believed to hint at some very exciting news for fans of the developer.

As reported byMP1ST, rumors suggest that FromSoftware is working on a game codenamed FMC. It is believed to be in development for multiple platforms, which rules out the possibility of it beingThe Duskbloods, as that is aNintendo Switch 2 exclusive. According to MP1ST’s Kurakasis, the likeliest scenarios are either a remake or remaster of aDark Soulsgame, or a new spin-off or stand-alone expansion ofArmored Core.

FromSoftware Is Reportedly Working on a New Codenamed Project

One of the reasons most fans think Project FMC has something to do with eitherDark SoulsorArmored Coreis the two franchises' previous codename patterns, which all start with the letter F.Dark Souls 3, for instance, was codenamed FDP, andArmored Core 6’s nickname during its early development was FNR.

Project FMC is unlikely to be aDark Soulssequelbecause Hidetaka Miyazaki has already implied he’s not interested in directing another installment. However, it remains possible that FromSoftware is working on the remaster or remake ofDark Souls 2, especially given the success of its predecessor’s remastered edition.

However, there is a stronger chance that the codenamed project is connected to theArmored Corefranchise. For one, it’s already a multi-platform series. Moreover, FromSoftware has released multiple spin-offs and remasters for the franchise, indicating its interest in continuing to expand it. Excitingly, MP1ST’s reporter claims that Project FMC is in advanced stages, possibly far enough that players might be able to play it within the next year. If that’s true, an official announcement from the Japanese developer could be on the horizon, as marketing plans would need to kick off soon. That said, these are still just speculations and should be taken with a grain of salt. There’s currently no concrete evidence to confirm or offer more reliable clues about FromSoftware’s active projects.
