FortniteandSquid Gamerecently came together for a brand-new Reload map. Titled Squid Grounds, the special limited-timeSquid Gamemap brought the world of the hit Netflix series toFortnite, and not only that, but there were a variety of special limited-time cosmetics thrown into the mix, too.
Over the years,Fortnitehas continued to bring high-profile franchises to its many different modes, but the arrival ofSquid Gamewas particularly exciting, as it opens the door for some fun mini-games to come across in Reload, too. This isn’t the first time this year thatSquid Gamehas been featured in a video game, though. Back in January,Call of Duty: Black Ops 6had its own majorSquid Gamecrossover, and while there are similarities between the two collaborations,FortniteandBlack Ops 6have also handled their events in quite different ways.
Fortnite and Call of Duty: Black Ops 6’s Squid Game Crossovers Have Their Own Strengths and Weaknesses
The Modes
Fortnite’sSquid Gamecrossoveris confined to only one specific mode instead of being part of the base game. Players who prefer Battle Royale or the game’s many other modes were only be able to experience the bulk ofFortnite’sSquid Gamecollab in Reload. This has its downsides and benefits. On the one hand, players who aren’t interested inSquid Gamedon’t have to bother with a map and POIs inspired by the series. On the other hand, though, not every player is fond of Reload, so approaching crossovers this way in the future could deter some fans from jumping in on the action.
In comparison,Black Ops 6offered a variety of modes that were inspired bySquid Game. Red Light, Green Light, Pentathlon, Squid Game Moshpit, and Dead Light, Green Light (Zombies) all played a part in bringingBlack Ops 6’s limited-time crossover to life. Granted,Fortnitedoes allow players to experience Red Light, Green Light, but it was still confined to the Reload’s Squid Grounds map along with Glass Bridge.

Squid Games-Inspired Skins and Cosmetics
BothFortniteandBlack Ops 6have included a sizable number of skin options with theirSquid Gamecrossovers, but the latter still had more variety overall.Fortnitehas four main skins: Games Guard Skin, Games Manager Skin, and a male and female green tracksuit skin that has multiple variants featuring default characters.
Black Ops 6boasted several Operator bundles that featured some ofSquid Game’s most notable characters. While Niran and Maya were givenSquid Game-inspired skins that were more generic options, some major characters were included.
Beyond skins,Fortnite’sSquid Gameitems included Delicious Dalgona back bling, Ddakji Box back bling, Lil' Prized Piggy Bank emote, and Squid Shapes wrap.
Black Ops 6 Excels at Variety While Fortnite Focuses on an Eye-Catching Map
When it comes to the amount of modes and content featured in the two crossovers,Black Ops 6is in the lead, but half of the fun ofFortnite’s Squid Grounds map is taking in its vibrant aesthetic. Using the pastel-infusedSquid Gamescolor palette to its full advantage,Fortnitedefinitely didn’t miss out on the fun.Fortnite’s Squid Grounds map featured plenty of great loot, which adds an extra layer of fun to the crossover.FortniteandBlack Ops 6’s approaches are both strong ways to integrateSquid Gameinto their worlds, so when it comes down to it, it’s mostly a matter of one’s own preference. If someone is more interested in variety,Black Ops 6was probably more enjoyable, but for those who craved a more straightforwardSquid Gamescollaboration, the Squid Grounds Reload map pulls ahead.
