Epic Games launchedFortnite OG’s first live event on July 26, which was thought to be a simple replay of the game’s first live event. However, players were treated to something a little different. In a recent post on Twitter, VortexLoreFN pointed out that a red butterfly flew into the rocket before it could take off. When it finally did launch, it created a massive red rift in the sky.Fortnite’s butterflies and rifts have traditionally been blue, which means something different is happening in Fortnite OG. Some players believe the red coloring could indicate a connection to the current demon portals in the game’s main mode.
Fortnite OG Could Be a Parallel Universe
In another post on Twitter, Rezztro pointed out that the sign at Lonely Lodge (one of the map’s main locations) had been taken away by another one of these red rifts. Some players have also noticed that the sound of the rift seems very different from what gamers typically hear. As of writing, Epic Games hasn’t shared why the rifts in OG appear to be different fromFortnite’s main rifts.
The unique look and sound of these red rifts has a large portion of the community wondering what it could all mean. Many players seem to believe that the slight deviation means Fortnite OG isn’t a simple retelling of the battle royale, but a parallel universe that’s beginning to branch off. This could explain whyFortnite OG’s passes contain variants of the title’s classic characters. With so much content to enjoy and even more just around the corner, many fans are feeling optimistic about the future ofFortnite.
