Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney has confirmed that Blitz Royale will be a permanentFortnitemode going forward. The fast-paced roguelike mode first appeared back in 2018 before re-emerging in its current form in June 2025 to massive success. It didn’t take long forFortnitefans to demand it stay for good, and those players have now gotten their wish.
The mode was originally supposed to be available for just under a month, from June 18 to July 15. Three weeks into that relatively brief timeline,Fortniteextended Blitz Royale by another four weekswhile introducing new loot, locations, and collabs to keep it fresh throughout that time. It seems that it was a hit, too, as Epic Games has apparently decided it’s worth keeping Blitz around for the long haul.
While there hasn’t technically been an official announcement yet, Tim Sweeney retweeted aFortniteleak account saying the mode was confirmed to be a permanent addition to the game. As subtle a sign as that may be, there was already a mounting pile of evidence that Epic was planning on keeping the mode around for longer than its initial window. Earlier this July,the officialFortniteaccount teased Blitz Royale’s permanencewhile polling users about changes they wanted to see from it. That acknowledgment that fans have been asking to make the mode permanent and the previous extension of its availability leave little room for interpretation when it comes to Sweeney’s repost.
Fortnite Is Making Blitz Royale a Permanent Game Mode
The move should not come as much of a surprise. Extensions and teases aside,Blitz Royale set newFortniteplayer count recordsafter debuting in June, reaching a peak of 443,379 concurrent players within its first 24 hours. That’s more than double what the standard Battle Royale and No Build modes were hitting at the time. The faster-paced, mobile-friendly mode injected new life into the game and has remained popular since coming back, so it would seem like a missed opportunity forFortnitenot to make it a permanent addition.
Blitz Royale came at the right time for the game, too. Before the mode’s re-emergence on June 18, things were not looking so good for the free-to-play shooter, withFortniteplayer counts dropping to a two-year low pointin May 2025. Blitz Royale’s record-smashing popularity could be enough to overcome that hump and keep the game thriving for longer, especially now that it’s here to stay.
