Magic: The Gathering’s Edge of Eternities is officially coming out of its prerelease period with a good chunk of sales under its belt, and it’s already looking like a massive hit for Wizards of the Coast right after theFinal Fantasyset’s $200 million in one day and Tarkir: Dragonstorm’s success before that. SomeMTGEdge of Eternities cards surged in value even before the prerelease period started, showing that not only is there a lot of interest in this set, but also that it contains some very powerful cards. Not counting special treatments and non-main set cards, there are five clear winners that are worth a few bucks and then some.
Players looking to buildMagic: The GatheringCommander decks, testing some of the new cards in Standard and Limited, or brewing some cool combos with Edge of Eternities cards will want to keep an eye on several new additions to the game. For example, Tannuk, Steadfast Second is a popular EoE commander, second toMTG’s lobster Ragost, Deft Gastronautfrom the main set. Cards like Ouroboroid and Cosmogrand Zenith are showing promise in various formats, too. Yet, there are five cards that have sparked several discussions among fans, and they are:
Magic: The Gathering’s Quantum Riddler Keeps on Spiking in Value
Fans familiar with Blue draw engines in the game’s past will immediately see a resemblance betweenMTG’s Hulldrifter in Aetherdrift, its original inspiration called Mulldrifter, and Quantum Riddler. Quantum Riddler has warp for 2 mana, drawing the user a card, and then possibly a second if the user only had Quantum Riddler in their hand when it was played. Even for its full mana cost, it’s a 5-CMC creature with flying, 4 power, and 6 toughness, and it draws at least one card upon entering the field. It’s very strong, and rightfully among the most expensive cards in Edge of Eternity, sitting at around $29 on TCGPlayer.
The most expensive Edge of Eternities card overall is Sothera, the Supervoid’s Singularity Foil version, which sells for $2,000.
Icetill Explorer is an MTG Land Deck Player’s Dream Come True
Though all other cards on this list are Mythics, Icetill Explorer is a new EoE rare that is about to breach $30 in value on TCGPlayer, and for good reason. Icetill Explorer costs 2 generic and 2 Green mana for a 2/4 creature with three abilities that make for one of the most disgustingly self-synergistic cards out there. It allows players to play one more land each turn, play lands from the graveyard, and also mill a card whenever a land enters, meaning it can feed into its own “play from the graveyard” loop. This is a perfect match for the newWorld Shaper Commander deck inMagic: The Gathering, but that’s not all.
This card is basically an improved Ramunap Excavator, and it’s comparable (if not better than) Oracle of Mul Daya, which are two of the most iconicCommander cards for MTG land decks.
One Magic: The Gathering New Planet Card is Already in Orbit
Uthros, Titanic Godcore has the exact same value as Icetill Explorer on TCGPlayer in its regular version, sitting at $29.97 at this time. This land enters the game tapped and provides one Blue mana when tapped, which is far from great, but it also has the newStation mechanic from Edge of Eternities. This allows players to tap creatures to place charge counters on cards with Station equal to their power, and at 12 or more charge counters, Uthros can be tapped while paying one Blue mana to add one Blue mana for each artifact the user controls.
This is the same effect as the iconic Tolarian Academy, a very powerful andexpensive card inMagic: The Gathering. Obviously, the kick is that Uthros needs creatures to feed into its Station mechanic, but it’s still a Standard-legal version of Tolarian Academy or another card with its effects for other formats.
Magic: The Gathering’s Stocks for Token Decks Just Went Up With Exalted Sunborn
The second most expensive card in Edge of Eternities, at least in its regular version, is Exalted Sunborn. This Mythic costs 3 generic and 2 White mana for a 4/5 angel wizard with flying and lifelink. On top of that, this card’s ability states that if one or more tokens would be created under the player’s control, twice that many tokens are created instead. This is an incredibly broken effect because it can pair with other sources that do the same, likeDoubling Season, and more importantly, it works with all kinds of tokens - creatures, artifacts, and anything else. Exalted Sunborn goes for $33.24 at the moment on TCGPlayer.

Magic: The Gathering’s EoE Villain Takes The Crown in Terms of Value
Tezzeret, Cruel Captain is a powerfulPlaneswalker card inMagic: The Gathering, as it costs just 3 generic mana, comes with 4 loyalty counters, and then generates one loyalty counter whenever an artifact enters under the user’s control. This is incredibly strong because it doesn’t specify that the artifact must be nontoken, so it works with Foods, for example.
Its 0-cost ability untaps an artifact or creature, and if it’s an artifact creature, it gains a +1/+1 counter. Its -3 ability can be extremely powerful inMTG’s Commander formatbecause it can fetch 0-cost artifacts from the deck, allowing players to cast them and immediately put one loyalty counter back on Tezzeret. Its -7 is also very strong, creating an emblem that gives three +1/+1 counters to artifacts even if they are not creatures at the beginning of combat, meaning it can slowly build an army. This card currently goes for almost $40 on TCGPlayer.
