Planned for release on September 30 across multiple platforms, the remastered game will sport more than just a visual upgrade, including features like fully voiced dialogue, player control over battle speed, and adjustments to the original narrative.

While longtime fans have shown excitement over the revival of the classic PlayStation 1-era game, Maehiro has suggested that it might not be the last of its kind, given the proper circumstances. In a recent interview withInverse, Maehiro was asked about the potential forThe Ivalice Chroniclesto strike a chord with hew players given the lengthy gap betweenTacticsgames in theFinal Fantasyfranchise. The first-timeFinal Fantasygame director, who has been working on the series since the release of the originalFinal Fantasy Tactics, responded by stating that this game is being made specifically for players who never got a shot at the original and touting some of thefeatures already confirmed forThe Ivalice Chronicles. However, his final comment on the matter is possibly the most interesting, as he stated that if it is successful, it would “surely pave the way for the release of newTacticstitles that followThe Ivalice Chronicles.”

This isn’t the first time that Square Enix has provided life support for its now 28-year-old strategy RPG. The game was re-released in the Sony Greatest Hits collection four years after its original launch. Additionally, an enhanced PlayStation Portable version, titledFinal Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions, was released in 2007, although Maehiro noted that the extraWar of the Lionscontent will not be present inThe Ivalice Chronicles.

While fans will want to wait to gaugeThe Ivalice Chronicles' commercial success before expecting a sequel, there is another rumoredFinal Fantasygame that still hasn’t shown itself after four years. The original leaks leading up to the reveal of theFinal Fantasy Tacticsremaster came to players in 2021 alongsideleaks suggesting a remaster ofFinal Fantasy 9, though Square Enix has yet to announce the return of Zidane Tribal and his crew.
