Final Fantasy 14’s fashion scene has been jokingly referred to by fans as the MMORPG’s real endgame, with many fans spending countless hours grinding for rare gear purely forglamouring inFF14. After a brief period of downtime,Final Fantasy 14added a new collection of fashion items to the store, called the Belt-leather Attire, and players aren’t happy about it. There are three sets total available, with the first set having the standard Belt-leather Harness Top, Belt-leather Trousers, and Belt-leather Boots, while the second features variants, namely the Open-back Belt-leather Harness Top, Cropped Belt-leather Slops, and Belt-leather Loafers. The third set is only accessories, containing the Belt-leather Beret and Fingerstalls gloves.

Why are FF14 Players Angry About The New Gear?

While some fans like the new designs aesthetically, the main issue with them is the pricing and packaging. Each of the main Belt-leather Attire sets costs $18 USD, with the Belt-leather accessory set costing $6 USD on its own. If players want all theFinal Fantasy 14gear, they’ll have to spend $42 USD. Players are angry that the accessories have been packaged into their own separate set, pointing to existing glamour collections on the store that contain these equipment pieces and even alternates for some pieces. Fans have pointed out that buying the game’s latest expansion, Dawntrail, is actually less expensive than getting this entire glamour collection, as it’s typically sold for $39.99 versus the fashion sets' $42.

To make matters worse, players have pointed to the origins of these fashion sets, which has added further fuel to the fire. The fashion items featured in these three sets originated in theKorean version ofFinal Fantasy 14, and have essentially been ported over to the worldwide version of the game. In Korea, the cost of all these pieces converts to about $32 USD, so the worldwide release has increased the price considerably.

At this point, all players can really do is respond with their wallets by not purchasing this or any other overly expensive glamour sets. Given other recentfrustrations withFinal Fantasy 14, as well as a diminishing player count, it remains to be seen if Square Enix makes adjustments or ignores the backlash.
