TheFablefranchise has always been as much about its charming weirdness and cheeky tone as it has been about the grand, sweeping choices it gives its players. Whether a player ruled as a benevolent monarch or turned into a corrupt hero, one thing was almost certain: the world of Albion, and the characters who inhabited it, were unforgettable. As Playground Games prepares to reboot the series with the revampedFable(2026), long-time fans are wondering which familiar faces might make a comeback.

Whether they’re resurrected in ghostly form, reincarnated into new roles, or simply whispered about in taverns and tombstones, these characters helped defineFable’s legacy. Bringing them back even in small, unexpected ways would tether the new game to its roots, while reminding fans that Albion never truly forgets its legends. Here are some of the characters that long-timeFablefans would be delighted to see again in some form, whether as ghostly guides, lingering legends, or fully-fledged returning roles.

Characters from Fable That Should Return for the Fable Reboot

Weaver (The Guildmaster)

Weaver was the steady hand at the helm of theHero’s journey inFable. Stoic and commanding, his omnipresent advice provided much-needed structure in a game full of chaos and possibility. Even as a background voice or an ethereal memory embedded in a new Guild, his return would be a nostalgic delight. Albion is always in need of a Guildmaster, and no one is better suited to fill the role than the original, even if he’s only in a portrait placed lovingly in a hall.

Jack of Blades

It’s hard to talk aboutFable’s best villainswithout mentioning Jack of Blades. The mask-wearing villain was enigmatic, theatrical, and utterly terrifying. His mix of ancient evil and unsettling charisma made him the perfect foil to the Hero of Oakvale. While Jack was seemingly defeated (twice), the nature of his being leaves plenty of narrative doors open. Perhaps his influence still lingers in Albion’s darker corners, or his dominion over strength and will has fallen into the wrong hands.

Scythe

Equally mysterious but far more benevolent, Scythe was an ancient being that stood in for the Grim Reaper and was an ally of the Hero. Often seen as the wise, world-weary opposite to Jack of Blades, Scythe’s undead nature and connection to the Old Kingdom make him a prime candidate for resurrection in a newFable. If the new game explores Albion’s deeper magical roots or forgotten history, Scythe would be a perfect guide into that arcane past. He may be tied to the mysteriousWilliam Black inFable, which also makes him a prime candidate for a return.

Stars of Fable 2 That May Come Back for Fable 2026

Reaver

Reaver is the definition of morally gray. A selfish, narcissistic immortal who uses his fashionable looks and silver tongue to get exactly what he wants and then some. Despite his many flaws (and outright crimes), Reaver remains one of the franchise’s most compelling characters. His industrial revolution-era persona could evolve brilliantly in a more modernized Albion. WhetherFable’s reimagined Reaveris running a corrupt mega-corporation or selling snake oil under a new name, Reaver deserves another shot at charming and horrifying players.

Lady Elvira Gray

Lady Gray was the mayor of Bowerstone andFable’s earliest examples of a villain with real narrative complexity. Depending on player choices inFableandFable 2, she could even become the player’s wife. Yet, after her death, she mysteriously appears again inFable 2thanks to the workings of a necromancer, suggesting her story was far from over even then. If theFablereboot revisits Bowerstone, it truly needs to consider the legacy left behind by Lady Gray. With resurrection, necromancy, and romantic history, the cameo potential is truly endless. A return in the newFablecould give her the haunting arc she deserves.

Fable 3 Figures That Would Add to Fable 4’s Lore

Theresa

Technically, Theresa did not make her first appearance inFable 3, but this game cemented her as transcendent. One of the franchise’s most consistent and enigmatic figures,Theresa has appeared in all three mainlineFablegames, guiding heroes with cryptic warnings and powerful foresight. After disappearing into the Spire inFable 3, her fate was left deliberately ambiguous. As the last known bloodline of Heroes and the keeper of many ancient secrets, Theresa is arguably the spiritual core of the series. Even if she doesn’t return in the flesh, a reference to her legacy or guidance from beyond the veil would be more than welcome in the newFabletitle.

Elise / Elliot

The Prince or Princess’ childhood sweetheart andromanceable NPC inFable3, Elise (or Elliot, depending on the Hero’s gender) was one of the game’s earliest moral tests: save them, or let them die for the greater good. That moment stuck with many players, not just for its emotional impact but for the way it colored the rest of the game. Yet, even the most morally righteous of players might have been enticed to save someone who meant so much to the protagonist, so it’s entirely plausible that Elise/Elliot survived. If the newFablecontinues the theme of personal sacrifice and political consequence, a descendant or echo of this choice could come back to challenge players once more. Perhaps their family bears a grudge, or in the best-case scenario, an heir still carries their torch.

Honorable Mentions & Speculations For Characters to Return in Fable 2026

Asthe history of Albionunfurls in a potential new game, there’s room for old myths to rise anew, whether they come back to haunt, help, or hinder the next Hero. While these characters are at the top of the wish list, there are others who could add flavor, fan service, or unexpected twists:
