A new report suggests thatFablecould potentially be pushed back once again. The long-awaited fourth entry in the beloved RPG franchise was originally slated for 2025, but back in February, developer Playground Games announced that the game would be eyeing a 2026 target, but that could now be 2027. The wait forFablehas been a long one, as it was first announced in 2020, but another potential delay could be beneficial in the long run.

Now, it’s important to note that this possible delay to 2027 hasn’t been confirmed by Playground Games. This news comes fromXboxEra co-founder Nick Baker, who stated in the most recent episode of The XboxEra Podcast, “I’ve heard from two different people now thatFablemay slip to 2027.” He also reassured listeners that this wasn’t because of any bad reasons, he’s just been told “that it’s taking a bit longer than they expected.” If his insiders are correct, though, launching in 2027 could be a blessing in disguise.

2027 Could Keep Fable Safe From the Incoming GTA 6 Frenzy

Developer Rockstar is Bound to Have the Biggest Game of 2026

LikeFable,GTA 6was originally believed to be launching in 2025, but earlier this year, Rockstar confirmed that the game will now be coming out in 2026. Not only that, but it’s coming out practically in the middle of the year, putting any other 2026 game in a tough position.Resident Evil Requiemis scheduled for February 2026, which keeps it a healthy distance fromGTA 6’s looming shadow, but for other projects that were hoping to come out during the second half of the year, standing out against the likes of a game that is expected to be a historical launch is daunting. The expectations forGTA 6are wild, and once it has hit the scene, it will be nearly impossible to compete for a while.

This may ultimately make a 2027 launch forFablethe best case scenario after its original delay. Even if the game is everything fans of the franchise have wanted, there are bound to be way more gamers who flock toGTA 6if given the choice between the two. IfFablewas eyeing an early 2026 release, then it would likely be in the clear, likeResident Evil Requiem, but possibly being pushed to 2027 implies that it might arrive in the latter half, post-GTA 6.

Analysts have predicted thatGTA 6could make a whopping $7.6 billion in its first two months.

2027 Still Has its Own Potential Hurdles

Fablehas the opportunity to bypasstheGTA 6tidal wave, but there is another game on the horizon that could prove to be another huge competitor. Bethesda still hasn’t confirmed whenThe Elder Scrolls 6will be ready, and 2027 could very well be the target.

The Elder Scrolls 6was announced back in 2018 and currently only has one 30-second teaser trailer.

Right now, there’s no way to know for sureifFablewill have to worry aboutThe Elder Scrolls 6, but that’s still very much a possibility. However,GTA 6’s release date has been confirmed, so that makes it the biggest threat at the moment. With its long development cycle,The Elder Scrolls 6could easily be a 2028, or even 2029, release.

So far, the state ofFableremains a huge mystery. The fourth entry has been a long time coming, and even if it gets another delay, it could at least better ensure a great fantasy RPG experience.TheFablefranchisehas become a beloved series, and no matter what year it releases, it hopefully has a launch date that allows it a solid spotlight.
