Summary
Hogwarts may be the most well-known wizarding school, but that doesn’t mean other schools in the universe don’t deserve a mention. After all, theHarry Potteruniverse features amazing worldbuilding that fleshes out the world and makes it easy to imagine for many.
It’s easy to see why other regions of the world would boast wizarding schools of their own, allowing students from all over the world to learn about the magical arts. Some of these schools are pretty well-known, while others don’t have too much information surrounding them.
7Koldovstoretz
Accepts Students From Russia
ARussian magical school that looks the part, not a lot is known about Koldovstoretz. A unique image depicting the happenings at this school shows wizards riding entire uprooted trees instead of broomsticks, which looks ridiculous yet adds a lot of character to what fans assume to be a rather chaotic school.
This is the only fact most people know about a school that is shrouded in mystery. Thankfully, theHarry Potteruniverse still has a ton of room to evolve, which is why fans are excited to know more about other wizarding schools and their quirks.
6Mahoutokoro
Accepts Students From Japan
The Mahoutokoro wizarding school is known for boasting impressive academics andtalented Quidditch players. It’s one of the oldest wizarding schools around, which is perhaps why it has cultivated such a stellar reputation.
They achieved these feats despite boasting the smallest student body of all other wizarding schools. Even Quidditch was brought over to the school by a bunch of clueless Hogwarts students who wanted to explore the world on their brooms, only for Mahoutokoro to turn it into their specialty.
5Uagadou
Accepts Students From Africa
The largest wizarding school in the world, students from all over Africa come to study in Uagadou. Students in this school were known fortheir proficiency in Transfiguration, Alchemy, and Astronomy.
A surprisingly large number of Animagi have come from Uagadou. While the description of this school does nothing to counter Rowling’s tendency to rely on stereotypes, that should take nothing away from the effort put into the worldbuilding of a school that is pretty anonymous otherwise.
4Castelobruxo
Accepts Students From South America
A wizarding school catering to students in South America, Castelobruxo harbors many talented wizards and witches. Their proficiency in Herbology and Magizoology is unmatched.
The school is enchanted to look like desolate ruins for Muggles and is protected by the Caipore. The fact thatthis school is as old as Hogwartsmeans that it has had more than enough time to establish a long-lasting legacy.
3Ilvermorny School of Witchcraft And Wizardry
Accepts Students From North America
A wizarding school that was perfect for students of North America, Ilvermorny’s structure is quite similar to Hogwarts. It also sorts wizards and witches intoone of the four houses.
The history of this school is extensive, with a small shack serving as a humble beginning for this school that eventually transformed into something special. While the machinations of an evil aunt could’ve halted the school’s development for good, she was taken out in the nick of time, and the wands that were buried later on spawned a legendary Snakewood Tree that has become a central presence in the school.
2Beauxbatons Academy Of Magic
Accepts Students From France, Spain, Portugal, The Netherlands, Luxembourg, & Belgium
Beauxbatons is one of the two schools that arerevealed inThe Goblet of Fire. While Fleur and her gang’s looks may make it seem like Beauxbatons only admits pretty students, this is far from the case.
Their school is structured as a beautiful chateau with a stunning fountain and a massive ground for playing Quidditch. It’s one of the most opulent schools in the wizarding world ofHarry Potter, which received a lot of attention afterThe Goblet of Fire.
1Durmstrang Institute
Accepts Students From Northern & Eastern Europe
One of the darker wizarding schools in the series, Durmstrang, can be a bit too elitist for its own good. The school only admits pure-bloods, which is an outdated practice that most of its alumni don’t necessarily believe in.
Durmstrang’s castle is smaller than Hogwarts but boasts bigger grounds. Still, the fact that fires in the castle are only lit when required paints a grim picture of a dark, brooding school that may not necessarily be pushing the right teachings on its students.
