Civilization 6is theEpic Games Store’s free game for July 17. While this will technically be the second time that EGS users can claim Firaxis’s hit 4X strategy game, the upcomingCivilization 6giveaway will still mark a notable first for Epic’s PC storefront.
Since July 3, theEpic Games Store has been giving awayBackpack HeroandFigment. The promotion officially concluded on July 10, with another giveaway now taking its place.
As is typically the case, the start of the new promo coincided with Epic announcing next week’s freebie:Civilization 6, set to become available to claim on July 17. The sixth mainline entry in theCivilizationfranchisewas previously offered to Epic Games Store users during a week-long giveaway in late May 2020. However, this upcoming promotion will feature a different version, as Epic is set to give away the Platinum Edition of the critically acclaimed 2016 release for the first time ever.
Epic Games Store Free Games Right Now
Regularly priced at $79.99, the Platinum Edition of the game originally launched in late 2019,bundlingCivilization 6with itsRise and FallandGathering Stormexpansions. As such, the package offers a significantly expanded experience, incorporating a variety of additional leaders, scenarios, and civilizations. The two extra expansions introduce new gameplay mechanics, namely governors, loyalty, natural disasters, and environmental diplomacy. Besides the two large expansions, the Platinum Edition offers half a dozen DLC scenario packs featuring Vikings, Poland, Australia, Persia and Macedon, Nubia, and Khmer and Indonesia.
Although the subsequently released New Frontier Pass isn’t part of the package, the Platinum Edition is packed with enough content to keep players entertained for hundreds upon hundreds of hours.Civilization 6will be free to claim on the Epic Games Store between July 10 and 17, both beginning and ending at 8am PDT / 11am EDT / 5pm CET. With an 89 Top Critic Average score on OpenCritic, this will be one of thehighest-rated games—in the strategy genre or otherwise—that the Epic Games Store has given away in recent years.
While waiting forCivilization 6to become available to claim, EGS users can pick up two other freebies in the meantime. These areFigment 2: Creed ValleyandSky Racket, both of which became claimable on July 10. In recent months, Epic has more often than not given away two freebies per week. Based on this trend, the July 24 giveaway may also include a pair of titles rather than just one.
