Quick Links
As one of the longest-running manga series,One Piecehas plenty of memorable moments. Eiichiro Oda’s hard work and ingenuity have turned One Piece into the best-selling manga series of all time. Oda’s work is nearly immaculate, but there have been instances where even he has made an odd choice, leaving readers divided.
How Oda Ruined The Most Significant Moment
Shanks And Luffy’s Moment Was Affected
At the beginning of One Piece, fans saw an extremely emotionalmoment between Shanks and Luffy. The former sacrificed his left arm to save Luffy from the Master of the Near Sea. Seeing Shanks go to such lengths for Luffy was truly moving, and he capped it off by giving the boy the Straw Hat.
This moment holds a lot of significance within the community because it shows how highly Shanks values his friends and how far he’s willing to go to protect them. However, a new reveal in the One Piece manga will change how many fans view this particular moment.
In One Piece Chapter 1152, fans saw Shanks and Scopper Gaban sitting in a hot spring. On Shanks' left arm was the mark of the Abyss, which issomething that all Holy Knights andGodheads have. It’s likely that this mark cannot be removed by ordinary means because it’s put on the body by a complex procedure. Furthermore, there is also a possibility that the person with the mark cannot remove it, as Imu might have put some countermeasures in place.
Shanks likely didn’t want anything to do with Imu, the Celestial Dragons, and Marijoa, so he wanted to get rid of the mark, but he needed a proper plan to do so. When Luffy was taken away by Higuma, Shanks could have easily beaten the Master of the Near Sea, but he chose not to. Instead, he allowed the creature to devour his left arm, which had the Abyss mark. Subsequently, Shanks used his Haki to scare away the creature.
Shanks Saving Luffy Has A Different Meaning Now
When Shanks met Whitebeard, the latter asked him what happened to his arm. Shanks responded by saying that he made a bet on the next era, which seems rather odd, especially considering he lost the arm that had the mark. Many fans have a different opinion on Shanks' “sacrifice” after the reveal. They believe that Shanks primarily wanted to get rid of the mark.
I bet this arm on a new era. —Shanks
Shanks expressing his desire to take the One Piece has made fans question why the Yonko waited so long to make a move. Furthermore, fans believe that Shanks did not make a bet on the new era because he wants the One Piece for himself. Of course, readers are free to believe what they want, but there will be some questions in their minds.
Will Shanks Claim The One Piece?
Shanks Has The Necessary Power To Obtain The One Piece
Shanks has already made it clear that he wants to obtain the One Piece, the treasure left behind by his captain. Scopper Gaban even called Shanks the “Child of Fate,” implying that he is destined for greatness. Even Roger entrusted his Straw Hat to Shanks because he believed in him. With so many legendary figures endorsing him, it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that Shanks is closest to the One Piece.
Shanks likely has two Road Poneglyphs, and he’s missing the one on Zou and the one whose location is unknown. He can either go to Zou to claim it, or he can go after Blackbeard or Luffy. The easiest way to obtain it would be to fight his fellow Yonko. Fans already know that locating Zunesha can be cumbersome since it’s always moving. However, it’s a lot less risky than fighting Blackbeard or Luffy.
Shanks has expressed his desire to hunt down Blackbeard many times. So, there is a good chance that Shanks will fightBlackbeard for the Road Poneglyph in Zou. There is also a possibility that Shanks already has the fourth Road Poneglyph, which was likely in Elbaf. Considering Shanks' positive relationship with Elbaf, it wouldn’t make sense for the Giants to hide it from him.
