Techland has recently announced that two undisclosed games being developed by the creator of the popularDying Lightfranchise have been canceled. This is certainly sad news for Techland fans, as many gamers were eager to know what the developers ofDying Lighthad in mind after the release ofDying Light: The Beast.

Techland is a Polish game developer founded in 1991. Over the years, the company has made multiple successful titles and is perhaps best known for theCall of JuarezandDying Lightfranchises.TheDying Lightfranchise has been incredibly successful, for example, with the series selling over 30 million copies when including the two games.

Now, however, as reported byPulz Biznesu(viaGameKult), Techland recorded losses for 2024, with a deficit of 135 million zł ($37.3million) in 2024 and 90 million zł ($25million) in 2023. Most of these losses are explained by the fact thatDying Light 2: Stay Humanwas released in 2022, and the company has not released new games since then. However, the financial reports also disclosed that the company canceled two unnamed future projects for unknown reasons. While the name of these projects is unknown, it’s possible that one of them was an open-world fantasy action RPG revealed in 2022, which was set to be a brand-new IP. The reports also clarified that Techland will launch a new, unannounced project to replace the two canceled ones.

DespiteDying Light 2being released a while ago, Techland continues to support it, though. Last week, for example, the devs releasedUpdate 1.23 forDying Light 2, which consisted mostly of minor fixes and some quality of life improvements, as well as one balancing change.

Techland’s next project will beDying Light: The Beast. Originally planned as a DLC for the second game,Dying Light: The Beastwill be releasedon August 22 and mark the first title released by the developer in three years.

The upcomingDying Light: The Beastwill have the originalDying Lightprotagonist, Kyle Crane, as its main character, and it will feature smarter human enemies, more dynamic reactions for zombies, a more immersive world, and more. Hopefully, the title will be a success, and Techland will continue to work on its upcoming game, which could either be a continuation of the popular series or a project in a completely new IP.
