Nintendo Switch andDying Lightfans are in for some disappointment, as the newDying Light: Retouched Update won’t be arriving on the console. Unfortunately,Dying Light’s bad news for Nintendo fans isn’t limited to the new update.
Originally launched a decade prior in 2015,Dying Lightoriginally arrived on last-gen systems, and is now set to get a new update on June 26 commemorating that anniversary. TheDying Light: Retouched Updatewill refresh the game’s textures, lighting, and audio, and will even be released for last-gen’s PS4 and Xbox One, as well as the current-gen family of consoles.
After the developers behindDying Lightdetailed the plans for the Retouched Update, fans immediately noticed that the Nintendo Switch version of the game wasn’t mentioned as one of the platforms receiving the refresh.IGNreached out to its developer, Techland, and was informed by a representative that there are currently no plans to bring the Retouched update toDying Lighton the Nintendo Switch. This might lead some fans to believe that the update would only arrive for the Nintendo Switch 2, but Techland also noted that there are no plans to bring the game to the Nintendo Switch 2, either. At the moment,Dying Lightis only playable on the new system via theNintendo Switch 2’s backward compatibility.
Dying Light Series' History with the Nintendo Switch
Fans of the series who own the original Switch, Switch 2, or both, may be disappointed by this news. However, it’s not without precedent. WhileDying Light: Platinum Editioncame to the Switch, there were plans to release a Cloud Version of the second game for the Switch, which launched for other systems in 2022, but those plans never came to fruition. Additionally, there are currently no known plans to bring spin-offDying Light: The Beastto the Switch family of consoles, either.
While no official reason has been offered for the Nintendo Switch’s exclusion, it’s entirely possible that the original Nintendo Switch isn’t capable of handling the graphical demands of the update. Even though the update is coming out for last-gen’s PS4 and Xbox One, the Switch has been considered weaker than those consoles. With theextreme demand for the Nintendo Switch 2, it’s possible that Techland could change its position in the future and release these games for the new Nintendo console. Sadly, original Switch owners likely shouldn’t hold their breath for the same, but players on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S can start exploring what the update has to offer starting on June 26.
