Nearly three years after its reveal at Gamescom 2022,Dune: Awakeningarrived on Steamearlier this month and got off to a remarkably strong start. On the launch day, it crossed 140K concurrent players and, within six days, reached its current peak of over 189K concurrent players on the platform. Such strong popularity coincided with notable praise from critics, leading to a score of 81 on OpenCritic. As expected,Dune: Awakening’s impressive launch performance resulted in a commercially fruitful period for Funcom, during which the Norwegian developer not only broke a personal record but also saw the game race to a big sales milestone.
Dune: Awakeningannounced that it reached one million players on Steam, which translates into a staggering one million units sold in around two weeks of launch. In the process, the open-world title made history for Funcom and became its fastest-selling title ever. The developer stressedDune: Awakening’s commercial numbers by sharing that its previous game,Conan Exiles, took one year to sell the same number of copies. Apart from this achievement, Funcom also showed an infographic shedding light on the player activity that has taken place in the sci-fi game thus far. It was revealed that over 66K players had perished in sandstorms, over 120K building pieces had been used, and more than half a million Ornithopters had been crafted, among other things. Moreover, BeneGesserit was revealed to be the favoritestarting mentor ofDune: Awakeningplayers, whereas Mentat turned out to be the least-picked mentor.
Dune: Awakening Races Past One Million Sales
Funcom has registered a big win, withDune: Awakeningreaching a million players despite only being available on Steam right now. With hopes of keeping the momentum going, the devs now appear to be focused on delivering updates that addressplayer concerns surrounding the newDunegame. In a recent Q&A session onReddit, the studio shared that a new update containing “a lot of” quality-of-life improvements was being considered for an early July release.
WhileDune: Awakeningis finally out on PC, there is still an air of mystery around when exactly console players might get to play the game. In any case, according to a recent statement,Dunefans on PS5 and Xbox Series X/Sshouldn’t expect to get their hands on the MMO title until 2026.
